WJHR now on 15550 USB
« on: August 21, 2019, 1938 UTC »
I don't know when this change took place, or if it's even official, but I first noticed the odd 1.5 kW USB SWBC station from Florida at this frequency instead of 15555 last week. I wondered for a second if that was a mistake, then forgot about it as I kept tuning. But it's there now, and I assume it has been for a while. (I couldn't find the database at the FCC for shortwave stations.)

Sounds best at 15549.97, just like the old frequency sounded better if you tuned a bit under the nominal value.

SDRPlay RSPdx & RSP2pro, Airspy Discovery HF+, Icom IC-7100, Grundig Satellit 750, Realistic DX-300, Tecsun PL-600.
MLA-30 active loop, G5RV dipole.

There was a warc move to get hfbc to all ssb mode by a certain date that I presume is long past. Odd how so few have moved to ssb even if due the energy savings.
Then again most listeners to hfbc are using a portable sw set with simple diode rectification and can't copy ssb, or if they can it'd be tedious to have to bfo tune every bcast.

Exactly.  Even though SSB-capable portable shortwave receivers are cheaper now than they were 10 years ago, I imagine that most listeners in 2nd/3rd world countries are using basic AM mode only receivers (or AM/FM/SW portable radios) for shortwave reception.
U.S. East Coast, various HF/VHF/UHF radios/transceivers/scanners/receivers - land mobile system operator - focus on VHF/UHF and 11m

We found out definitively that this station is tx'ing at no more than 1.5 kW a while back, thanks to Glenn Hauser.
