***Serge Gainsbourg was France's Leonard Cohen. He wrote this for him and girlfriend Bridget Bardot.
Bardot did a lousy job with it, they parted ways. He recorded with new, younger girlfriend Jane Birkin, song rocketed to number 1 all over Europe. The Birkin Bag was named for her after a designer saw her spill a satchel at an airport. She never gave consent to use her name.
