Lots of interesting stuff on that frequency if you park on it for a while during skip conditions.
Absolutely.
Here's a nice blast from the past: 27.255 MHz - really, sounds like paging to me!
Recorded back in April 2011 in downtown Richmond, VA using a RF Limited Magnum 257HP mobile 11m/10m radio connected to a Tram-Browning (or just Tram) BR140 / BR-140 NMO mount 27 MHz VHF low band professional land mobile radio type antenna (base loaded 1/4 wave).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl2RyqoFvVk27.195 MHz is another interesting one. I've noticed a somewhat unique roughly 4 kHz - 4.5 kHz wide MFSK signal that appears on 27.195 during band openings, usually to Latin America...like clockwork. Of course, there is plenty of voice traffic on 27.195 MHz (AM mode). There is a taxi cab company somewhere in Mexico that uses that frequency, and I've heard plenty of American truck drivers, etc. using it. I have actually talked to (local) stations in my area in FM mode on that frequency, along with 27.255 MHz (CB Channel 23) and 27.295 MHz (CB Channel 29).
In Europe it's an even crazier situation. First off, there are pagers, telemetry, data link and data bursts on all of non-CB channels (26.995 MHz, 27.045 MHz, 27.095 MHz, 27.145 MHz and 27.195 MHz). French speaking stations seem to like to use 26.995 MHz FM and 27.045 MHz FM for, well, voice comms. 27.140 MHz USB, 27.190 MHz USB and 27.195 MHz USB 27195 USB are all quite popular in Eastern Europe and Russia for SSB work.
Unlike with the U.S. regulations, CB Channel 23 is just another CB channel as far as Europe goes.
The various countries have additional paging frequencies designated for RCRS type purposes - including, but not limited to data link, RC, telemetry, SCADA and similar purposes. For example, Russia has a 2 watt data link, telemetry, fixed point to point, car alarm, high power remote control and similar purposes service that operates on 26.945 MHz and 26.960 MHz (center frequencies 26945 kHz and 26960 kHz).
The UK (and other countries in Europe) use
26.605 MHz 26605 kHz
26.635 MHz 26635 kHz
26.645 MHz 26645 kHz
26.650 MHz 26650 kHz
26.695 MHz 26695 kHz
26.700 MHz 26700 kHz
26.735 MHz 26735 kHz
26.745 MHz 26745 kHz
26.750 MHz 26750 kHz
26.755 MHz 26755 kHz
26.785 MHz 26785 kHz
26.815 MHz 26815 kHz
26.835 MHz 26835 kHz
for several purposes, including on site hospital paging.
I know 27.505 MHz (and offset frequencies) are used in Spain and likely elsewhere for hospital paging - same with 27.845 MHz, 27.850 MHz, 27.885 MHz and others. There's a paging system somewhere in the Nordic countries on 27.940 MHz and then the paging/data link system on 27.450 MHz. Another, unidentified but similar system operates on 27.080 MHz, 27.300 MHz, 27.350 MHz and 27.360 MHz. It seems to come in quite well when the 26.900 MHz 26900 kHz POCSAG paging signals are coming in.
Others include
26.200 MHz 26200 kHz
26.220 MHz 26220 kHz
26.250 MHz 26250 kHz
26.300 MHz 26300 kHz
26.350 MHz 26350 kHz
26.400 MHz 26400 kHz
26.450 MHz 26450 kHz
26.500 MHz 26500 kHz
26.540 MHz 26540 kHz - narrowband data bursts - in the 4-5 kHz bandwidth range
26.550 MHz 26550 kHz
26.590 MHz 26590 kHz - narrowband data bursts and paging signals
26.600 MHz 26600 kHz
26.640 MHz 26640 kHz - similar to 26.54 MHz and 26.59 MHz
27.550 MHz 27550 kHz
27.600 MHz 27600 kHz
27.640 MHz 27640 kHz - narrowband data bursts
and there are many, many others. Basically 26.2 MHz up to 27.95 MHz - every 50 kHz or so, plus the many, many oddball offset frequencies like 27.8475 MHz or 27.5125 MHz (offset for 27.505 MHz paging/pager signal). Of course, when propagation is really going nuts and 27.555 MHz USB is absolutely crazy...that's when the POCSAG pager on
27.550 MHz starts blasting through as well.
I know at one point or another there was a beacon on or around the 27.140 MHz to 27.145 MHz range 27140 kHz - 27145 kHz somewhere in France. I have no idea if it is still on the air.
I managed to capture French speaking stations on 27.045 MHz (in FM mode) 27045 kHz FM via the UK based G8JNJ SDR receiver back in the middle of August 2026 - August 13, 2026 to be exact.
