North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6925 AM 0450 UTC Dec 5 2013
« on: December 05, 2013, 1328 UTC »
A carrier appeared around 0450z on 6924.880 kHz on the SDR recording.  The carrier frequency was 6924.865 at 0708 sign off.  It seems to be a different frequency than the 0345z UNID on 6925, which was much closer to 6925.009 kHz, so I think it was a different transmission, although it could also have been drift in the transmitter frequency.

General Radio Discussion / Happy Hanukkah Radio signal strength
« on: December 05, 2013, 1248 UTC »
Here's a graph of Happy Hanukkah Radio's signal strength during their 4 December 2013 transmission. The graph starts just before sign on, and runs until just after, so you can see what the background noise levels were like. They were about S4/S5 at sign on, and S3 at sign off.

HHR's signal was S8 at sign on, and it dropped to S5, at which time it was barely audible. It then quickly came back up, to roughly S9 with some peaks above that, and remained excellent until sign off.

One thing you can take from this is that even if you are not hearing a station others are reporting, it pays to continue to listen, as propagation can dramatically change in a matter of minutes.

Carrier, with some audio being heard, although I am not sure if it is from the same station as the carrier or from pescadores. I am not even sure if the signal is from NAm, Europe, or somewhere in between.

General Radio Discussion / First Dutch pirate fined under new policy
« on: December 04, 2013, 1959 UTC »
The first FM pirate raided under the new Telecom Agency policy, has been fined . 'Club AA' from Gramsbergen  was fined nearly € 10,000, reported the pirate site etherpiraten.com

Since 1 November the pirate no longer gets a warning. And so a pirate who is raided can expect a letter after a few weeks .

In a recent judgment, the court endorsed the new policy of Telecom Agency, so the chances of success for a pirate when challenging his fine is not very good.
