« on: March 13, 2012, 1045 UTC »
Heard dashers on 4096.3 and 4096.6, plus TMP on around 4079.8. All at around 1040z.

Not a bad signal level, S5, which is pretty good for the XPA Polytone station at this QTH, but a lot of aurora flutter.

Equipment / Re: antenna
« on: March 11, 2012, 2110 UTC »
If your listening is concentrated in just that one band, you may wish to consider a dedicated antena, such as a dipole. Running it away from the house (such as between two trees) and feeding with coax and a balun should reduce pickup of local noise sources from inside the house. A folded dipole (made with 300 ohm twin lead) may offer even lower local QRM pickup, but you'll want to use a 4:1 balun in that case.

S9+ signal, ID, into 60s oldie.

Some confusion about what time it currently is. The DST change seems to have left him chronologically challenged.

Another weak one, barely S1, but audio is there.

ELO "Mr. Blue Sky", S1 signal, but not too bad really.

Very weak, but some music audible at times. 300 watts according to the op.

Not even S1.

Very weak, just a trace of audio.

Improving slightly, stronger now at 1403z.

ID at 1413z. Still about S1.

Breaking through the geomagnetic storm with an S9+20 signal.

There's some QRM on the upper sideband from another op (reported to be WBNY/Jamba/T-Shirts R Us) on 6925.14 or so, but fortunately that is a very weak signal, and ECSS-LSB completely takes it out.

Very weak signal, just a faint carrier. Reports to flashbackmusicradio@gmail.com

Now (1807) signals are starting to return on the upper end of HF. 20 MHz WWV is S3, and 7850 CHU is about S1. They (and just about everything else) were completely gone earlier.

M8 flare currently in progress. Most of HF is wiped out here. Some signal strength eye candy graphs: http://www.hfunderground.com/propagation/

I'll try to throw together a blog entry with some graphs and such. I need some meaningless pie charts, then I can be just like USA Today.
