General Radio Discussion / Re: Propagation

They wasted all those words when it can be summed up in a single word for those of us using less than =>10kw (we aren't like some hams we could mention)...

And the single word is...

Crappy!

end of report.

THERE'S A LITTLE BLACK SPOT ON THE SUN TODAY
Everything burn go rip and tear
End times coming via Brother Stair
Time for a change in underwear

I'll burn to a crisp but I don't care
going to Hell because I swear
But I'll go with a great big pair
Suns gonna burn off all my hair...

etc etc etc

Sorry guys... I'm in one of those moods...  All Hail Bob... prepare for X-day!!!

You got it right Pigmeat!!!! Haaaaaa!

Better yet take a beater that has the rear bumper sticking out of the trunk after it fell off...

My late lead guitar player had an old Comet and we had to stop every mile or so to pick up the tool box because it fell through a hole in the trunk...  If we wanted to stop he would say 'OK guys, put ur feet through the holes in the floor...

I wonder what happened to the Vomit Comet... I know, all too well, what happened to my guitar player... <sigh>

Ahhhhh the good (?) old dazes

General Radio Discussion / Re: FORFEITURE ORDERS
« on: June 08, 2016, 2134 UTC »
I know a amateur that has been nailed with violating Amateur rules and regulations several times. They slapped him with a fat fine, and didn't renew his license but he still operates using his old call sign.  In this situation, has been going on for years.  I don't know why they didn't just take his equipment and sell it at auction and put the money towards his fine but I am sure they have a good reason for not doing so. Perhaps only honest persons pay the fines...?

As for the Ham I mentioned...  check 14275Khz every time the winds blows or the rain falls...

PS I won the court case he had against me  ;D

Are 'they' talking 'jamming' or 'reflections due to spurious signal operation' or some such?  Sending air craft off course for this or that reason.  I believe air craft have other means (manual) to check their course but not the computer operated craft on 'auto-pilot.

I don't know for sure but it seems that jamming could be done quite easily... 'child's play' as it were.

I don't know squat about air craft GPS but I remember that the auto GPS up in the State of Maine could be quite hazardous to your health.

I digress to Land GPS in Maine:

There was a story that was floating around up in Maine about making sure when those little boxes told you to take the next left or right, you should pay extra attention because you could very well end up in the middle of a lake or pond very easily.  No joke.  I have rode in autos that used the directions from those boxes and you could get very lost very quickly.  For some reason some of those units (not all) didn't work all that well when driving in the boonies.  Like where I lived...  14 miles from the Capital City of Augusta.

Oh BTW folks, if you plan to head up to Maine for the summer or whatever... avoid the traffic circles unless you are well versed on how they work. In Maine the circles, in and out, work ass backwards than they do in the other 49 States... Beware! Many folks from out-of-State get into crack-ups because of this and the police love writing tickets because of this little oddity.  ::)

Enjoy and play nice <heh>  ;D

Doesn't say but I am sure it doesn't... come on it's yippy yuppy duppy puppy 'consumer electronics' most likely from China.  I'd almost bet it's one of those 10 watt stereo personal transmitters that they sell in a different package... no extra charge for the spurs that might knock down airplanes.

Being one that has experienced an RF burn.... errrr... I'll pass on this thingie, besides I like hair here and there and everywhere... be it known I am a Hippie not a; yippy yuppy duppy puppy....

heh heh  ::)

Huh? / Re: Art Bell- love him or hate him?
« on: May 18, 2016, 1859 UTC »
OK according to Bell's wiki page he "...set a Guinness World Record by staying on the air for 116 hrs. & 15 min."
That's 3 hrs. & 45 min. short of F I V E Days. Seems I recall some research (scientific) into sleep depravation lasting around a week (?), causing serious & permanent damage to one's psyche. Comments?

Nella... it seems as tho I have read that back when I was at University... but darn it all I can't remember the cite... <sigh>

Your point still stands tho because staying awake that long has to do some damage to ones cranial inner workings I am sure... The longest I have stayed awake was almost 3 days and look at me... I'm about as screwy as they come.   ::)

enjoy...

the man is what, 83 years old, this isnt going to last forever.
i can ponder about what will happen to the commercial US SWBC's once he has passed on, since he is their major source of operational income.

Very good point!!!  83 you say?  Looks like he will see the gates of hell before I... at least I hope anyway but if not I'll be waiting for him with a set of false teeth so I can at least understand what the devil he is talking about ::)

When he goes all of the commercial SW stations will have to pass the plate around to pay their electric bill...  everybody say Amen!!!!

Josh... I remember back in the day when I was operating Army MARS and one net we had was on 4030 khz or so and the evening net on that frequency got clobbered by a broadcast from Cuba.  We could complain about it but we knew nothing could be done because it was a Spanish Lady reading off 5 number groups ;-)  Oh the fun we had in the day... <heh>

I remember hearing the conflict as well, although from my point of view, it was the MARS net QRMing the Cuban spy station I was trying to listen to  ;D

Yep Chris... I hear you but it was the other side of the coin don't cha know <heh>  :D

I posted this hoping someone might ask the question:

Is that the thing my neighbor is using that puts out that 40 over S9 signal on top of 6925?

I wonder if it's an 'honest to goodness' type 15 device...

More junk to clutter up the airwaves...  RF burns don't heal very well at all BTW... I couldn't find any info about the power output of it.

I bet the next item up for sale as a home product will be a home use diathermy machine. With a pair of push pull 810's as the oscillator.  More fun... most of those things operated on 11 meters or so but the new ones will be putting out a wide band white noise crap over the entire band.

Oh when will it end???  <sigh>

Fart Smell isn't too bad as long as he isn't drinking gallons of beer and eating tons of beans but that Snorie Norie guy is just the worse.

I agree... Fart Smell is nutz...  I liked the very early programs but these days he sees his own shadow and suddenly there are guys trying to bump him off...  For what reason might I ask?  Like maybe he knows something that those 'guys' don't want made public...  I am sure if Fart knew anything relative to reality he would have said it by now...  He's got that type of personality...

He'll probably die due to not breathing because he was to busy talking to take a breath.
