A nice article on QSL behavior. I thought is worthwhile sharing.

Yessiree. There are a few DXers out there who in the pursuit of a QSL have the gall to fabricate a reception report. The phenomenon, if it can be called that, is nothing new. It is as old as radio itself.

Why address the subject? Well, a few days back a fellow DXer and free-radio operator called it to my attention. He informed me of an individual who, apparently after reading my blog entry for his station, decided to pass off a reception report as his own. The station alerted me and promptly asked the guy to submit an audio file of the transmission. Guess what? He couldn't produce it.

Wait a minute! He could have sourced the Internet for an audio file and produced a sample, right? It does happen. I actually had one young man do just that. He submitted a file of WWV and CHU on frequencies for times normally not received in his quarter, yet he tried to pass it off as genuine. How did I know it was fake, aside from the obvious physics? The audio file -- stolen from a fellow radio listener -- still had the original Box or Soundcloud name attached to it.

Even with the advent of remote web-receivers some DXers attempt to pass off their home RX  location as the remote RX location. A diligent station engineer/operator will immediately recognise this for what it is -- a bogus or less than accurate report. Why hide the obvious fact? There is no shame in stating the actual RX location, even if it is remotely observed. Simply keep one's home and remote QSLs in separate categories. Be honest.

Now, it is possible to submit a reception report to a station, honestly believing it is a particular broadcaster. The time, frequency and language of the broadcaster all seem to be the station. Unfortunately after either submitting a report or further listening, usually days later, one discovers the error. It happens. I have done it more than a few times myself over the decades. Yet, I will fess up and duly note my error.

Folks, honesty is more priceless than any QSL, however prized it may be. No DX contest for X number of stations, X number of countries is worth sacrificing one's integrity. Be patient and diligent in DXing. It's like fishing. It takes time, calculation and patience. And the results are far more rewarding when one knows it was a genuine catch.

Happy DXing!!!

The Radio Bandeirantes founded in 1937 in Săo Paulo (Brazil) is no longer operating on shortwave (6090 and 9645 kHz) due to financial difficulties. Some staff were laid off in August, including members of the Sports News department (which is a substantial part of Bandeirantes programming).
11925 kHz has been inactive for several month now. This is sad news, as Rádio Bandeirantes has operated for many decades and been an important part of Brazilian broadcasting on shortwave.

Huh? / Is Kim Jong-Un a Radio 1 fan?
« on: September 23, 2015, 1627 UTC »
Is Kim Jong-Un a Radio 1 fan? BBC reveals ONE North Korean loves listening in:

NORTH Korea dictator Kim Jong-Un could be a BBC Radio 1 fan after statistics revealed one person in the country has been repeatedly viewing the station's YouTube channel.

Favourite artists of the solitary fan - who is watching the channel with increasing regularity - include pop sensation Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, according to chiefs.
They also reportedly love watching presenter Nick Grimshaw interviewing Harry Potter star Emma Watson.
Sources are convinced that the lone viewer is the tubby tyrant himself – because North Koreans are banned from receiving foreign media by the barmy dictator.

One source said: "The viewer can only be dictator Kim Jong-un."

The loony leader is known to be an avid fan of Western pop culture and has a particular love for Jackie Chan films.
Kim has previously been caught with a smartphone, prompting speculation he was using a product made by arch nemesis South Korea.
The phone was spotted in a photo of the dictator while he was chairing a meeting - prompting South Korea to draft in experts to figure out whether he was using a Samsung.

A Seoul government official said at the time: "Kim and his family members as well as the North's political elite appear to use smartphones or other mobile phones capable of accessing the internet."

The North Korean leader also banned Instagram throughout the country this year - with warning messages appearing on accounts.
The messages reportedly claimed the hugely successful photo-sharing service is set to be blacklisted for harmful content.
Opening Instagram on a mobile device using North Korean carrier Koryolink resulted in the notification: "Warning!

"You can't connect to this website because it's in blacklist site."

General Radio Discussion / The end of medium wave in Germany is near
« on: September 22, 2015, 1449 UTC »
The current medium wave 801 kHz with 100 kW from Munich-Ismaning is intended for shutdown on September 30, at 12:45 EST.
This is indicated by Stefan Teuscher, DL4GCS, the technical director of the Bavarian Radio.

According to his statement it is not the last medium wave that goes off air in Germany.
Until December 31, the "Deutschlandfunk - DLF" is spread over six medium wave transmitters:

Braunschweig       756kHz      200kW
Heusweiler          1422kHz     400kW
Neumünster        1269kHz     300kW
Nordkirchen          549kHz     100kW
Ravensburg          756kHz     100kW
Thurnau               549kHz     100kW

If these go QRT in three months, a 90 year era will be irrevocably over and not a single analog Signal on LW or MW will be left.
The long & medium wave will be history in Germany.
