Shortwave Broadcast / VOK vs HM01, 11635 AM, 2130 UTC, 12/14/16
« on: December 14, 2016, 2137 UTC »
Rough copy of both as noise is uncharacteristically high for this frequency and time of day, but VOK interval and DPRK national anthem were distinctly heard under HM01 at the listed time. Currently indistinct if you weren't familiar with VOK's routine.

EDIT: 11635, not 11735 as initially posted.

Tx in Las Vegas, New Mexico. At only 20 watts (per wikipedia entry), it's still the strongest signal audible on this frequency in Denver. QRM from CKB (a full 50 kW clear channel station in Saskatchewan) which sometimes rises up enough to be understandable, but mostly fades back while KNMX's Spanish mix dominates. Variety of styles including Spanish version of Jingle Bell Rock with YL vocals. Station ID at 0530.

Nighttime broadcast reference map showing small area of coverage for station, much larger one for CBK, and how Denver is in a big empty area as far as that frequency is concerned: http://www.nf8m.com/pattern_maps/US-CA_nighttime/N-map_540KHz.html

I have gotten very weak copies of this before, but tonight it's coming in well enough to understand. A good 433 SIO. News report about a shooting in Ottawa, weather report for far eastern Canada locales, and more.

Terrific greyline-to-greyline signal. It's almost gone as I type this but it was strong for a while with traditional music, presumably Mongolian in origin.

Terrific signal today for a broadcast that usually can't be heard where I am with what I have. SIO 544 with minor fading, S9 +20. The program has consisted almost entirely of music with only occasional YL announcer every 15-20 minutes or so.

2351 Old rock n roll tune. Faint, possible OM voice ID given but not copied.
0005 not off. "Spirit in the Sky"
0035 still on, still faint but copyable. I feel like I should know these song titles.
Current song has refrain "so here it is, Merry Christmas" maybe Slade
0038 OM saying show was a relay, couldn't quite make out what of. QRT

Thanks for the show!

9580 very good but not excellent, which is typical.
12085 also very good, a bit noisier but actually pushing the S meter needle more. Both frequencies subject to minor fades.
12065 very weak, but it's remarkable that it's audible at all. Below the noise floor but present.
