First noted at 1115 UTC, but still on as of 1217z as I type this with English language broadcast underneath (CRI per eibi).

Listening on KPH kiwi SDR, YL and OM speaking Spanish in what I believe are Mexican accents. Interesting catch both because of LSB mode and the fact that I had just been sitting here after catching V13 numbers station on the same frequency at 1300 UTC (but in USB mode).

Normal one day progression. As they've been on a run where HM01's messages update as expected, I will cease commenting on that until such time as they start getting goofy (rebroadcasting last week's messages or skipping ahead as much, etc).

If interested in exactly which files were transmitted digitally, review the last few entries of March's topic:

Shortwave Broadcast / Ifrikya FM, 17600 kHz, 31 MAR 2024, 1540 UTC
« on: March 31, 2024, 1546 UTC »
Fairly solid SIO 222 signal. Station ID at 1545. Music until 1546, when OM began speaking in the style of news reading.

Actually tuning in at 1413 UTC, first transmission on this frequency for the A24 broadcast cycle. Good SIO 444 signal into Denver with what sounds like a futbol match, or at least the pregame portion of it.

Null message:

Repeated 0220z on 17462 USB. Earlier broadcast was SIO 444, later was more like 343.

Shortwave Broadcast / KBS World, 15575 AM, 28 Mar 2024, 1315 UTC
« on: March 28, 2024, 1346 UTC »
I was getting an excellent signal at the above time, SIO 555 or close enough, for my first decent copy of KBS's sole North American directed broadcast in English this season. I know from checking various online SDR's (especially in the east where the sun's higher, and good ones right on the Pacific coast such as KPH's kiwi SDR) that it's come in to other American QTH's for a while, but it's only been a carrier with occasional traces of audio for about a month now. Recent solar storms causing blackouts in the Arctic latitudes haven't helped either.

Utility / USAF HFGCS message at 20 MHz?
« on: March 27, 2024, 2139 UTC »
I'm posting this separately from the main log diary since I've never seen this before. I found an apparent EAM on WWV's frequency of 20 MHz (20000 kHz USB) just today at 2124 UTC.

Found this while scanning the bands. The only station scheduled for this frequency is RFI, and they're only on 0700-0730z. I took a chance and used Shazam, which identified the music as "Days of Emancipation" by a Chinese composer named Zhu Changyao. The audio quality is much like The Firedrake when I can copy that here, so I suspect this is also being broadcast from somewhere in China. As of 1912 as I type this, it's still only music airing uninterrupted.

Hindi language broadcast beamed from NW Australia to India in Hindi, but coming into Denver SIO 544 to 555. Music as of 1334z. Station ID in English with email at 1337z (radio@reachbeyond.org.au).

1624 Josiah at about SIO 222.
1636 faded to just the carrier due to M class solar flare.
1703 getting some audio again. Too weak to understand but it's still Josiah's voice.

Amateur Radio / 14.313 MHz USB shenanigans, 13 MAR 2024, 1621 UTC
« on: March 13, 2024, 1623 UTC »
For many years I've heard hams behaving badly all over 80m and at 7.200 MHz LSB, but it's been ages since I heard anything on the notorious 20m bands gathering spot. At the moment (1623z) there's mostly one obnoxious sounding guy who may or may not be actively arguing, but at 1621 there were several including this particular ham who were all talking over each other and cursing.

Just found this Russian language broadcast scanning the bands. The signal is only about SIO 111 here, but confirmed it's the same signal when I tuned using the KPH kiwi SDR in California where it's SIO 444. ID copied at 1559 UTC as I was typing this.

1600 Tx is from the UAE. At 1600 it changed to NHK World.
