General Radio Discussion / Aircheck hosting...anyone have any ideas?
« on: January 08, 2016, 1027 UTC »
I got the website fired up again thinking I would put some airchecks up there for people to download.  Turns out there is a limitation on file size, even though the hosting is unlimited bandwidth.

Someone mentioned using torrents for distribution, but then you need a seedbox somewhere which is more money (this thing doesn't create income, BTW).

I really don't want to run a webserver at the house for obvious reasons, but does anyone else have any suggestions.  Free is always nice, but I live in the real world too ;)

Anyone having trouble downloading the file, please send me an email with your type of connection and browser, the prof thinks it may be related to that.  I've heard from a few people having issues, and webhosting is not exactly my forte' but let's see if we can get this working for everyone.

Its a hosting problem.  The workaround is most versions of firefox have a 'retry' button that will pop up next to the failed download in your download list.  It will probably take several tries, but until I get something else set up, this is the way it will have to work.

Any suggestions should be added here http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,25598.0.html to help keep this on topic.

Thanks,

**Update** I have posted this show and also the halloween show on archive.org for everyone's ease.  It is tagged and easy to find, but links can be found in the above referenced thread.

As promised...

Please excuse some level variations in the recording, as there is no AGC in the board feed and I generally monitor off air where level variations due to processing are less obvious.  I was also a bit 'tuned up' that night, but it was an enjoyable show and we played a lot of really great music.

Please note that once an official aircheck has been posted, reception reports for this show will no longer be accepted.

Enjoy!

At least they're staying on LSB.

It doesn't do the AM guys much good.

During periods of violent solar activity, you will get better propagation into latin america at night.  I've witnessed it myself on several occasions.

Watch this space for an aircheck link next weekend.  Since conditions were so lousy, I thought I'd post one.

Yup, the stations I used to work for would usually get a few reception reports from Norway and Finland around this time of the year.  We even had QSL cards we would send back.

Thank You for putting this together, I always get a kick out of seeing the results for the previous year!

I'll add it to the list ;)

I should also mention that the ones I have experience with are the ones with the heatsink in the middle and the glass diffuser.  They make a cheaper one now that is all plastic, and I've been rather dubious about their performance, but YMMV.

Happy new year! (Sometimes, you have to take some bad drugs to know which ones are good....)

They have a deal with amazon and Home Depot.  They are about $10 each for 60W equivalents.  Plus, these are at least assembled here (The USA).

A good look at the innerds here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6DDFRBrSas

I live in an old house, so I'm always looking for ways to save money.  I finally broke down and went to LED's when the incandescent security lights in the back yard would last 6 weeks before blowing out.  You see, our government banned good bulbs that lasted, so all the stuff went overseas.  I put in a Toshiba LED PAR bulb three years ago, and it's still burning, 24/7.  I did notice my power bill went down about 20 bucks too.  I have a lot of bulbs that run 24/7 here, so LED was a logical choice.  I'm happy with them, but you have to buy the good stuff.  Cree bulbs aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.  It's been a couple years, and I've yet to have one fail.

I still have a few cage style filament bulbs on dimmers that will probably last 10 years.  I keep them just for looks, like my 6L6 audio amps I built as a teen :)

I will cite this as one of the reasons I buy Cree and only Cree bulbs.  I changed out almost all the bulbs in the place and noticed no change in the noise floor here.  I also picked up a few LED shop lights cheap, and they seem to be OK, had to put a snap-on core on the power cord, but otherwise no issues.
