European MW Pirate Radio / Charity Radio

Not a logging but Charity Radio from Ireland can just be heard here on a UK SDR on 927 Khzhttp://g0ezy-kiwisdr.ddns.net:8073/ On for a short time only.

5825.5 now and still climbing  :o

The link to the Monitoring Times (in the bottom of the Wikipedia page)
gives a much better answer to that question.
Saying that 5730-5900 can be used by broadcasting on a non-interference basis,

and many other details.
Can you link to the specific section please.
I found the band plan but it doesn't mention anything about a non-interference basis.

Only a hint of a signal. Just getting a little audio. Improving.
Islands in the Stream @ 1432

S3-5. Noisy, poss local.

246
Good signal here, about s7.

247
As far as I know it's 5900 although there are a number of legal stations below that.
The entire HF spectrum has legal stations broadcasting outside of the "official" bands.

At the speed Frank is rolling out "FreeDAB" (currently also testing in Dundalk and rumour that Sligo is next), it won't be long before he has greater coverage than the legal DAB operated by RTE. And with a greater range of stations.

There has being independent DAB in Ireland on trial basis. DB (Digital Broadcasting) in Dublin, Total Broadcast in the South East and most recently EireDAB in Cork and a test setup from RTE's studios in Dublin. All off air now.

Whilst I'm not sure that the publicity he is getting is going to be good for him, it might spur the BAI to consider licencing independent ops and stop  giving in to the whims of the FM stations.

The vna I linked to appears to be in an enclosure as far as images go, what vna did you order?

That's the one I ordered.
There's a top and bottom "cover" but the sides are open. It's not a big deal.

To take the stress off the SMA connectors, I've mounted it in a very small flight case with 2 "N" type sockets mounted on the side of the case. All connections will be made via the "N"s now.

There's a bigger version available now. Larger screen and I think it goes to 1.2 Ghz.  About 3x the cost though.

New frequency?
I'm hearing a signal on 5804. Nothing on 5824 here.

I received mine last Monday, just short of a month since ordering.
First impressions are good.
Checked it on an FM dipole which I believe is tuned to 91.6 Mhz. It returned a min reflected power on 91.4 but I will forgive it as the aerial is only about 8 feet up and the coax is dangling under it so may be throwing if off a bit. It may not have been calibrated to the band when I checked it also.
On one of my HF, aerials, it gave me a reading of 1:1 just off my operating frequency. The aerial is good for +/- 200 Khz (about 1.5:1 at the extremes) so happy with that. Z= 48.5 Ohm Zs.

Measured a new inverted MW antenna I just put up. Lovely curve on 1430 Khz. Z=40 Ohms without the atu so matching it should be easy enough.

I've measured several filters I have here, both homemade and factory built with interesting results.  I think this could be an invaluable tool for building filters.

The build quality is OK. Pity it's not a in an enclosure.
Spent most of the morning I got it making up SMA patch cables.

Signal coming up nicely.

Weak here and suffering from local noise

I think DRM has missed the boat. Pity as I think it had potential but the receivers were poor and too expensive.
About 16 years ago, I converted my MW transmitter for DRM using DReaM software with some success but nobody could hear it  except me, and only with a doctored radio and a PC.

Equipment / Re: Inverted L ground plane

Some run a wire along the ground under the h portion of the L for its entire length, in addition to the radials at the v portion.

This is exactly what I do, with good signal reports.

And no reason why not.
The purpose of the ground radials is to act like like a mirror of the radiating element which is the vertical section and is why concentrating the radials there is best.
In my own present setup, I can't run a radial the full length of the horizontal anyway as it runs over a neighbours field. I do have about 30 unused radials at the end of the horizontal wire from a previous setup which I may connect to the current setup. The more the better!

I'm lucky that I have a proper Field Intensity Meter (Nems Clarke WX-2E, similar to a Potomac) so any changes I make can be accurately measured.
