Nothing but noise here on 750 during daytime.
At night, WSB Atlanta usually has a good signal but
a selective receiver is required as it is adjacent channel
to local 50kw blowtorch WJR Detroit on 760.

MW Loggings / WNAX AM 570
« on: April 27, 2019, 1440 UTC »
Been looking for WNAX AM 570 Yankton SD for a while.  The 570 spot on the dial is usually dominated here by WKBN
in Youngstown OH.  However, early this morning from 1000 - 1030Z, WNAX managed to override the Ohio station at times.
WNAX runs 5kw day and night but the nighttime pattern is to the north somewhat away from me so was lucky to hear them.

Yesterday was the scheduled beginning of the phased decommissioning of many NDBs in Canada.
247 YLH, 283 PT, and 329 YHN normally have a good signal in here at my QTH but could hear none of them this morning.
Looks like they may have gone SK.   :(
So, log what you can while you can.

When the local 5kw daytime station on 1030 signs of for the evening, WBZ really booms into my Michigan QTH.
Most evenings WBZ can even be heard on my xtal set as loud as any local station.
The reason for the powerful signal may be the fact that WBZ uses a two tower array to
produce a directional signal beaming its 50kw westward.  None of its signal is wasted heating up the
Atlantic ocean.  Also, the transmitter site being in what appears to be a salt marsh probably
helps provide an excellent ground for the towers.
AFAIK, the only other Class I-A clear with a directional pattern is WWL AM 870 New Orleans.

Neighborhood QRM noise level was -100 dBm this morning (which is "quiet" for this location) but QRN from a line of strong T-storms through AL and GA made listening difficult.
Managed to log 51 beacons in a hour of listening, most buried in static.  No surprises or rare DX, mostly the usual bunch.
Probably heard YVB, YLH, PT, and YHN for the last time as it looks like they are scheduled to be decommissioned next week.
The winter NDB season is over for me.

Log 'em while you can.
Looks like many Canadian NDBs are scheduled to be decommissioned
beginning in April and continuing in phases over the next seven years.
Log 'em while you can.

Check out KBGG AM 1700 "The Champ" Des Moines IA.
Can barely hear them here, too much T-storm static.

KMOX 1120 AM St. Louis MO, big signal in here this morning on the car radio 0900 local (EST),
sounded like a local.  The path would have been all daylight.

KFAB fairly good sigs in here on the car radio an hour before our sunrise.
After sunrise, forget it, just a noisy mix with WBT.

That 475kc sig is right in the middle of the 630 meter ham band here in the States.
AFAIK, Aussie hams may have the same allocation.
nice report on all the NDBs   :)
Are they decommissioning many beacons in your country ?

have to look at their nite pattern.

Their nighttime pattern is directed to the west...  away from you.
