Utility / A special broadcast from SW Radiogram using EasyDRF
« on: May 09, 2023, 1849 UTC »
I don't know how many here know about the digital broadcasts done by WINB Red Lion and WRMI.  These broadcasts are used to test how well digital reception (including pix) can make it to other parts of the world that are normally jammed. Normally MFSK modes are used, and Olivia has been used in the past

This week the program will be sent using EasyDRF, a modified version of HamDRM from DazMan in Australia. The data from the 300th broadcast of the RadioGram will be used.

You can find the schedule, where to get EasyDRF, some tips on using it and a sample audio file from here

Equipment / Antennas for postage stamp size lots

Tiny yards are a challenge to put up a reasonable HF antenna, but there are a few things you can do.  See https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/antennas-for-postage-stamp-sized-lots.429144/

Shortwave Broadcast / Peru's bicentennial is coming up
« on: July 18, 2021, 2329 UTC »
As mentioned in the SWLing.com blog and World of Radio (undoubtedly elsewhere too), Peru's bicentennial is July 29. This is a fairly tough country to hear, but there are a few stations that have been reported in the past weeks. Expect extended schedules and programming not just in Spanish but in other Andean languages such as Quechua. These frequencies are nominal; they can and sometimes do drift...

Latin American Pirate / ROCV 6906 off the air
« on: November 21, 2020, 2138 UTC »
According to World of Radio, ROCV has suffered some sort of electrical problem. How long this is going to take to fix is anyone's guess.  I'd periodically check this frequency, and keep an eye on the World of Radio reflector on groups.io for more....Mike

FM Free Radio / Do we have any WTFDA members here?
« on: September 05, 2020, 2203 UTC »
Hi; I'm working on updating the pirate section of the HF Underground wiki, and we have an article devoted to places where you can get reports of activity. It seems that the Worldwide TV FM DX Association (WTFDA) would cover this, but I'm not a member. Do they cover FM (and maybe even TV) pirates?

If you are curious about the organization here is their web page

www.wtfda.org

and the page with sources of news for pirate activity...
