Equipment / Antennas for postage stamp size lots
« on: July 22, 2021, 0151 UTC »
Tiny yards are a challenge to put up a reasonable HF antenna, but there are a few things you can do.  See https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/antennas-for-postage-stamp-sized-lots.429144/

Shortwave Broadcast / Peru's bicentennial is coming up
« on: July 18, 2021, 2329 UTC »
As mentioned in the SWLing.com blog and World of Radio (undoubtedly elsewhere too), Peru's bicentennial is July 29. This is a fairly tough country to hear, but there are a few stations that have been reported in the past weeks. Expect extended schedules and programming not just in Spanish but in other Andean languages such as Quechua. These frequencies are nominal; they can and sometimes do drift...

4752 R Huanta 2000
5025 R Quillabamba (if Cuba isn't there)

From Manuel Mendez on the WoR reflector...

VENEZUELA, Radio Onda Corta Venezuela, El Tigre, 6200 and 7375. According with information in the Wathsapp Group " Banda Corta Venezuela" from the owner and t echnical director of R. O. C. V. , Gregorio Kina, this station will be back to the air very soon, probably next Sunday, alternating 6200 and 7375 kHz. Gregorio is currently adjusting the antennas of the station.

Latin American Pirate / ROCV 6906 off the air

According to World of Radio, ROCV has suffered some sort of electrical problem. How long this is going to take to fix is anyone's guess.  I'd periodically check this frequency, and keep an eye on the World of Radio reflector on groups.io for more....Mike

The best place to post questions like these is the Utility DXers Forum reflector on groups.io.  They have a lot of folks that can help with digis like these

Join up with the Utility DXers Forum (UDXF) at groups.io - this reflector is probably the best place to get answers to questions like these

Note that it's been reported that ROCV (the station name) means Radio Onda Corta Venezuela (per World of Radio logs).  As I understand it, they have applied for a license but given Maduro's oppressive regime, it's anyone's guess as to whether it will be granted.

This is likely to be the widely reported Venezuelan relay of LV Del Tigre - the actual frequency varies from 6906.15 to 6906.5 from day to day.

Good to have this country back on the air.  Right now they are a 'pirate' because they don't have a license from the Maduro government yet.  Whether they get one or not remains to be seen...Mike

Still going at 0145 using the N4TVC Kiwi. Another interesting choice of frequency...Mike

Still going on, a bit weak but in the clear on both frequencies at 0134. Interesting choice of frequency on 3480.  Heard on the Alexandria VA Kiwi

And it's really not quite a pirate, per World of Radio, they are applying for a license from the Venezuelan authorities.  Whether they get it or not is quite another matter, given the large number of MW stations that have been closed by the authorities, not to mention the numerous HF outlets they had some 20 odd years ago.
Evidently it's something of a 'test transmission' running, at least as reported about 50 watts.

Whether it stays on the air as a 'pirate' if their application is denied (and that seems likely given the government situation) remains to be seen....Mike

FM Free Radio / Do we have any WTFDA members here?
« on: September 05, 2020, 2203 UTC »
Hi; I'm working on updating the pirate section of the HF Underground wiki, and we have an article devoted to places where you can get reports of activity. It seems that the Worldwide TV FM DX Association (WTFDA) would cover this, but I'm not a member. Do they cover FM (and maybe even TV) pirates?

If you are curious about the organization here is their web page

www.wtfda.org

and the page with sources of news for pirate activity...
