Heard electronic music followed by alternating digital modes, one of which sounded  SSTV/fax-ish, followed by electronic music (about 30 secs), ending at 03:00z.
Unable to get any decodes and was too slow to record it.  Very strong signal, someone must know it.  Thanx!

Utility / 4517u, AF MARS net discussion of encrypted messages
« on: February 01, 2016, 0104 UTC »
At 00:53z happened upon  OLIVA 16-1000 transmission on 4517 usb of 8 character groups (copied below), followed by audio discussion of proper technique for the transmission of encrypted messages, and apologies by the sender for unspecified errors he had made in the preceding transmission. Emailed keys were mentioned.   One audio call copied in the net was AFF7MO.

The discussion is to resume next week.  An interesting listen, perhaps someone can identify the net on this frequency, MARS??

Utility / Something a little different (to me) on 11175
« on: August 04, 2013, 2333 UTC »
Two 30 character EAMs from "mainsail,"  at 23:09z and 23:15z. Not used to hearing Mainsail as an EAM identifier, an identifier usually used  when armed services aircraft is hailing any groundstation, which then identifies themselves by specific location (often Andrews, P.R. etc). Last I was listening EAMS were typically accompanied by a specific base identifier, as opposed to "mainsail" which is, I assume, intentionally vague.

As if to highlight this change, AX997 came on at 23:12 to hail mainsail for radio check.  When answered by "mainsail," they inquired x2 "what's your station?"  To this they were answered "cannot give that information over HF."  If I'm confused about when ground stations began refusing to identify themselves at least I'm not alone.

Addendum: Ah, I see this change was also noted in a post below.  Interesting that they are being more cagey about self-identifying in EAMs and in response to aircraft.  I did hear the "mainsail" voice from above slip at least once, and identified their location before transitioning back to mainsail.   8).

Utility / UNID Chatter 6930u: Military Exercise?
« on: November 18, 2012, 0136 UTC »
At 01:32z, while searching the pirate band, hearing multiple party chatter in English, weak here, unable to pick up more than some scattered words.  Any ideas?

At 01:55, hearing some party reciting multi numeric sequence: 055-855-148.  Also "sector one."  About the most  I can make out :'(

At 02:13 I could have sworn I heard a siren, and later a dog barking in the periphery during some of these comms.   ??? ???

Silent since about 02:20z
