Just recorded this EAM or whatever off an SDR located in Dutchess County, NY.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t1uue1dp3rljfcu88pov2/EAM-8993.81-AM.mp3?rlkey=a8hsz2erapw96to1aa92uvidr&dl=0

It's a bit hard to hear due to some distortion, but here's what I could glean from the audio:

Quote
ZZZ3XD BREAK

ZZZ3XDKUD58Q_SSO_HQ2 BREAK

_SOUTHERN BREAK

5SIK6K BREAK

I SAY AGAIN...

(message repeated)

THIS IS PROPAGATE

BREAK

Always curious to know what exactly they're saying.  Anyone have any idea?

Heard via an SDR based in Fuquay-Varina, NC.

1370 AM

The recording is very spotty, but a careful listen will reveal that the station is playing the end of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing".

Anybody got a clue as to what this could be?

Interesting catch here.

I think the following is WBHR (as it's the only ESPN Radio affiliate that I can find on 660).

The only thing is, I have no idea how a ten thousand watt signal would be making in from Minnesota to Orlando.  That would be about 1,631 miles on the hop from St. Cloud (according to my estimate); New York to Miami is only 1,278 miles.

I refer to this because there have been reports of WFAN coming in well near the Miami area...but these reports were made in the early 90s.

There's no way a 10,000 station could get this far out...right?

Was this WBHR?

I don't have the specific time information handy, but from about 3 to 4 AM Eastern time this morning, I heard quite the battle on 920 khz.

It seems that a Canadian station was fighting with a Spanish-language outlet and...I think a news-talk station...for that frequency.  The Canadian candidate MAY have been CKNX, or perhaps CFRY (I've heard the former before in this location, even at just 1,000 watts).

As for the news-talk and Spanish-language stations, I'm not quite sure what they were (never caught a call sign...but the Spanish one seemed to be playing music in Spanish).  Perhaps WHJJ in Providence for the former?

Here's a catch for ya via an SDR in Wetumpka, AL.

WLS 890 Chicago

Sounds like the station was broadcasting a University of Illinois basketball game.  Give it about seven hundred and fifty miles on the hop.

Booming into Tennessee...they seem to be playing 60s based oldies tunes.  Just heard the Guess Who and the Rolling Stones.

I think I just caught CKAT on 600 khz, out of North Bay, Ontario Canada.

At 0400 UTC, I was on a Highland Falls NY-based SDR, expecting to hear local WICC.  I did hear the latter, but it was definately under country music...and an ID of "#1 for Country", which is apparently what CKAT uses for a slogan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CKAT

Needless to say, I was surprised...CKAT was doing a good job of blowing WICC away! About 618 miles on the hop, too...WOW!!

With apologies to Elton John, it looks like "the bi*** is back".  :(

Just heard what seems to be an EAM on 4.726 khz into Omaha (actually about 30 minutes ago).  I don't have a recording available, but here's what I think I heard:

"LVXJ  4EL  EHN82  S8415L3  S7VED  THIS IS ED_468"

Any idea what this could mean, or who they might've been talking to/from?

Two stations, WWTF and WVOK, battling it out on 1580 khz.

The former was playing Creed's "Higher" as part of a rock format....until the latter station butts in with Captain & Tenille around 0:31.1.  WWTF starts to fade back in at about 1:13.1.

As far as power and location goes, WWTF transmits with 10,000 watts of power from Georgetown, KY.  That's 289 miles on the skip.

Make it 351 miles on the skip for Oxford AL based WVOK, transmitting with 2,500 watts....oldies! (Yeah, who plays freakin' Captain & Tenille in 2021? LOL)

Signal level was S6 - S7, with some static.
