North American Shortwave Pirate / ?? 6925.0 USB 0115Z Feb. 2
« on: February 02, 2013, 0119 UTC »
"This is ... Radio" with echo effect on voice, said about a dozen times. Weak here, I couldn't make out what they were saying. I only heard an ID, then gone, no program.

HF Beacons / Listening for beacons 30 Jan 2013
« on: January 30, 2013, 1916 UTC »
Last night I woke up at 5 am (1100Z) and couldn't get back to sleep, so I listened for all the beacons I know of in the range 4060 to 8000 MHz. I did not hear a single one. For a while I had a slight hint of something showing up on 4079.6 on spectrum display but I could not hear the CW of the TMP beacon.

I guess it was just a bad night propagation-wise? Has the whole season been poor? I haven't spent a lot of time listening for these beacons this winter but I've tuned around every couple weeks and didn't hear anything then, either.

HF Beacons / "K" beacon 7039.3
« on: January 09, 2013, 0504 UTC »
I've been hearing this Russian beacon for about an hour now. It seemed to peak at around 0430Z but still there at 0500Z. Signal was a good S5, now in and out of the noise around S2 average.

QSLs Received / Radio Ronin Christmas card
« on: December 19, 2012, 1607 UTC »
Not a QSL, but I received a Christmas e-card from Radio Ronin Shortwave. Very cool! Thanks!

At least that's what I think they ID'ed as. Signal not terribly strong, lots of QSB, 34333. Playing theme from 2001: Space Odyssey (Also Sprach Zarathustra) with ID at 0117Z.

Just tuned in to station transmitting USB. Signal S5 to 20 over 9, QSB, some deep fades. Signal 35434.

Was playing female singer I couldn't identify when I tuned in, now playing "We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions" by Queen.
0135Z "Freeze Frame" J. Geils Band
0140Z "Lucille" Kenny Rogers, no ID yet. Either faded out or cut out mid-song.
0146Z "The Unknown Soldier" The Doors
0149Z "Hello I Love You" The Doors
0151Z "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" / "Five Hundred Miles" / medley by male vocalists. Signal fading down to nothing here. No ID I've heard yet.

Great signals into Illinois, ranging from S7 to 20 over 9, some QSB. Playing Crosby, Stills and Nash songs. Will probably ID shortly. Signal 45444,

Seems to be either QRT or completely faded out at 0118Z. Never heard an ID.

Other / "Chicken" on 6938.4 kHz USB 2355Z Nov 13
« on: November 14, 2012, 0016 UTC »
Not sure what the official name of this digital mode is; I've been calling it the "Chicken" for decades because of its "bwuk-bwuk-bwuk-bwaaaak" sound. Quite strong here tonight.

North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6948 kHz AM 2250Z 12 Nov
« on: November 12, 2012, 2353 UTC »
There is a very strong carrier on 6948.58 kHz. I can hear audio beneath but the carrier is completely overpowering it here. Carrier is 40 over 9 with QSB.

Note I got the time incorrect above. It's 2350Z. I'm doing conversion to UTC in my head and not used to the time change to Standard time yet.  :)

Lasted about 15 seconds. Not much to see.

HF Beacons / 4096.00 CW beacon
« on: September 19, 2012, 0411 UTC »
Signal is fairly strong here now at 0400Z on Sept. 19. Noise is pretty bad, though. It sounds like it might be sending "W" or "P". Not sure, I can't quite pull out the CW. I've never heard this one before.

Hexie on 4096.25 is also pretty good here tonight.

Just signed on I think. There was a much weaker station on 6925 I couldn't make out but Big Boobs Radio has good signal here, 55445.

SSTV followed by Stones; Start Me Up

I haven't been able to get a good decode on their SSTV. Any idea what mode they're using?

QRT at 0343Z. Thanks for the show!

North American Shortwave Pirate / Assorted things 6925 0030Z
« on: September 08, 2012, 0036 UTC »
I have the receiver on 6925 and have heard an occasional whistle, voices saying something, sounds like there is a conversation in the background. Just heard something like "Hey Jerry can you copy me testing 12345 - 54321." QRN level very high here, we're surrounded by severe storms.

North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6930 kHz AM(?) 0315Z
« on: September 05, 2012, 0335 UTC »
I've been hearing a station on 6930 for 15 minutes or so. Extremely weak, I catch bits of music and voice under an extremely noisy band.

North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6926 kHz USB(?) 1300Z
« on: June 28, 2012, 1310 UTC »
I am hearing an extremely weak signal which seems to tune best on 6926 (not 6925). Voices, some music. I can barely tell it's in there so I can't even tell if it's a USB or LSB signal, but frequency is given for my rcvr in USB mode.
