HF Beacons / Remote listening to beacons 8 Jan 2016
« on: January 08, 2016, 1229 UTC »
Since I can't presently seem to hear the west coast beacons here, I used the Mojave Desert online radio this morning, starting around 1145z. Here's what I heard:

2008.42  Dasher, strong, seems to start and stop, not sure if this is the beacon or just propagation
2018.29  Dasher, very weak
2097.30  A - Very strong
4094.50  X
4095.94  "Viking" good signal
4096.29  "Hexie" presumed, appeared at 1428z.
4096.38  "Haystack"  good signal
4096.56   "Kelsie" extremely weak, only just barely there
4096.85   Fast dits, fairly weak, "Marin Dit" ??
4097.70   Weak, but a dasher of some sort. Who could this be? It is stronger now at 1445z and seems to be a carrier, so perhaps QRM?

I tried for Coxie on 4096.0, but not heard.

Interesting how much can be heard out there. I logged several beacons above that I've never heard here.

Sounds like a relay of an older XFM show, solid SIO 555 here.

Other / Dits 6619.2 0107 UTC 7 Jan 2016

I am getting some occasional dits on about 6619.2 kHz. Not sure if this is a beacon, or something else.

I noticed this while looking for the beacons around 6626 that I have never heard.

Instrumental music, about an SIO 333.
CW 0011z with VVV, shifted down 1 kHz just after the VVV, then MOONLIGHT RADIO ID.

I just posted an addendum to the year in review article: http://hfunderground.com/blog/?p=493

This is an updated list of the ratios of reports to logging threads, suggested by Richard Blaine of Radio Casablanca. The previous list only included stations with 11 or more threads (broadcasts), this list has all stations, even those with just one logging thread. There's a substantial difference at the top. Thanks for the suggestion, Richard!

A very good signal this morning on 6600, not quite as strong on 6518, or maybe there is more jamming.

Weak, but getting music and talk, SIO 222.

Good for just 20 watts!
