Simulcast of WSEN FM and tricky to track down since the FM frequencies were given but along with " The Dinosaur "

It's annoying the way some AMs ID with the FM freqs…   :(

trying to figure out if its just me or what

It's not you... you heard what you heard...  it's the radio.
All part of what makes radio interesting.   :)

Again, the key here is that the DX380 did not hear it.  This indicates some kind of product developed in the Panasonic
mixing stage probably caused by overload which drives the stage into non-linear operation.
Since no external antenna was involved, it can be considered internal mixing.
Since it was tunable, you can rule out IF feedthrough or audio stage rectification.
Problem is that with internal mixing there is an almost limitless combination of frequencies
that can cause what you heard so figuring out the source may be impossible.

Maunder here we come. :-)

Record snow and cold here in Michigan.  Got a 9" dumping of snow yesterday and temps
forecast to drop to 6F tonight.

Talked to a ham buddy who had a trailer hitch antenna mount and he got it to work by using an antenna tuner located in the trunk.

Looks like there are a couple of AM affiliate stations in VA...  WNTW AM 820 and WKGM AM 940, both @ 10 kw.
Do you live near either of those ?  Also, what type of antenna were you using on both radios ?

Do you live near any AM station ?

Hmmm, this is an interesting one.  The fact that the DX380 did not hear it indicates that it is some kind of a mixing product
developed in the Panasonic.  Have heard SW stations on an AM radio before but never as loud as what you heard.
Let me give this some more thought...

What type of antenna... frequency, band, receive only or transmit ?

The landing was planned but we regret any inconvenience.

8)Those type statements are very popular these days. They're vague and a lie, everyone knows it but we're giving it a shot anyway.

Like being merged, downsized, and outsourced...  it all felt like being fired.

Daytime, a lobe of their pattern is directed your way.
At night, it's all pointed directly away from you.

Presently thawing out here in the shack after my return from a QRM-free local park in an attempt to escape the S9+ noise in the neighborhood.
Took along a PL-600 portable and hastily strung up a wire antenna through the rafters of a picnic shelter.
The results were so-so, need to come up with some sort of tuner for the antenna as there were a number of signals present that were just too
weak to positively ID.  Anyway, the radio seemed pretty sensitive for a portable although the selectivity wasn't that great.

The best DX was Thunder Bay @ 500 mi... pretty good for midday LW.
The DAID on the Canadian beacons is a big help in detecting a signal.
Still cold soaked... gonna head for the kitchen and warm up with some Tim Hortons coffee, eh.

Could not find a spec concerning depth of copper plating on RG6.  However, for power conductors,
according to one source, the plating can be from 6 to 10% of the conductor diameter (depending on the
conductivity... usually around 30 to 40% of pure copper).
So, at say 6%, (without going through all the math) the depth of plating on a typical 18 awg RG6 CCS center conductor
would be sufficient to allow all the current at 10 mcs. to flow on the copper.  However, by the time you get down
to the AM broadcast band, only about half of the current would be flowing on the copper.
The above is based on an assumption of plating and some quick calculations, but you get the idea.
