Radio Progreso and Radio Rebelde for music on shortwave. Typical S9+40 without a preamp tends to make for easy reception at night. ;)

CRI, Radio Austraila, Radio Havana, Radio Japan, Radio Romania, and a few others for the occasional cultural segment and similar.

Moving down the dial, Radio Medi 1 from Morocco for music on longwave. Not exactly easy reception, but it is often listenable for an hour or two most nights here.

Hearing an utility operating around 6925.25KHz. Way down in the noise floor. Sounds like data. Otherwise, nothing much else near 6925KHz at the moment, at least here.

----

Briefly caught what sounded like another faint carrier at ~0335z.

1638
Sounds like an utility station (data?) at approximately 6925.2KHz. It is down in the noise floor, but apparently still strong enough to generate a mild het near 6925kHz, at least with notch filtering disabled.

Right at the noise floor here. Barely twitching the S meter at times. Heard the flute in the music, or at least it sounded like one when cooked through DSP filtering. Now sounds like a music track with a guitar.

Thanks for the broadcast.

0236z - Metal track?
0237z - ID

Peaking S9+10. Preamp now engaged, though. ;)

Peaking S4 with good audio. Quite nice sound quality for SSB.

Some intermittent QRM in background for a few seconds?

Thanks for the broadcast.

----

0232z - Talking about Elvira. Peaking upwards of S9+15 with the preamp engaged.

1642
Same. Electronic music. Now peaking S7. Mild QRM. ID at ~0148z.

0201z - Up to S9 peaks for awhile during the Ozzy track.

1643
Back on air around 0142z. S5 without the preamp. Audio is a little narrow, but sounding good.

Thanks for the broadcast.

Faint signal. Right above the noise floor, so using a narrow filter and active DSP here. Sounded like talk about antennas and wattage for awhile, plus I think a mention of Undercover Radio. Now talking about an Icom and wire antenna.

Thanks for the broadcast.

Faint signal, but nonetheless there. Using a narrow filter and active DSP to pull music out of the noise floor here.

Thanks for the broadcast.

Equipment / Re: I finally put up a Beverage antenna
« on: November 08, 2014, 0054 UTC »
You probably can forget the antenna analyzer due to the 9:1 balun and the ground losses involved. I suspect it wil show a decent impedence match across much of the HF spectrum.

Since you are running a terminated beverage, if possible, try increasing the length to gain directivity off the terminated end. Beverages are often at multiples of desired wavelengths. Your beverage easily could be like -30dB (or lower) from an isotropic. You either need more antenna gain and/or possibly a preamp to offset the difference. You can build a basic HF preamp for a few dollars, or perhaps even consider a combined preselector/preamp unit from MFJ or similar.

Floating around S5 here without the preamp.

0028z - Song. Must know something?
0038z - XLR8

Thanks for the broadcast.

10/11 meters / Re: UNID 27150KHz AM 0024-0027 10-28-2014

I used to be big into talking DX on CB back in the early- to mid-1990s.

These days 11m CB is hardly any worse than certain frequencies on the 20m and 75m amateur radio bands. Admittedly, those bands can provide lots of "interesting" listening opportunities, too. ;)

I was rolling the VFO through the 11m CB band to see how upper HF conditions were as we move into evening time here at the QTH.

Check the 10/11 forum. Lots of interesting - and some outright bizarre - stuff on the 11m band, especially when propagation to Europe is available.

SINPO 45555. Surprisingly decent audio, too.

0024z - banjo music
0026z - Family Guy FCC skit

Not QRM since the frequency is clear (here anyway), but probably not a traditional pirate station, either. Move to 10/11 forum if needed. Thanks!
