I've noticed this too!  I thought they'd all-out shifted to 11785 to avoid Radio exterior de Espana on 11780, but I guess not.  first noticed on Monday night/Tuesday morning, when Spain had 11780 in Sefardi and Brazil was causing one heck of a het from the higher frequency.  Odd!

Last night's conditions were rather odd.  I had Chinese stations everywhere, but Brazilians were making quite a good showing as well.  11765 was louder than it generally is, 11780 and // 6080 are a given, and this one...  I've never managed 11815 before!  :D  anyone know if they QSL?  Still no luck with Bandirantes, darnit.  China tends to step on them.  No sign of Aparecida last night either.  Odd.

Here's the log as I wrote it up.

11815, Radio Brasil Central, 0037-0115.  Brazilian popular music, some dancey, some closer to ballads, interspersed with announcements or other talk from a male presenter, often over music.  Definitely heard what sounded like 'nacional', but could have been 'central'.  Signal weaker but audible, with splatter from China on 11820.  SINPO 32232.

Brazil was in the clear after 0100, when china signed off 11820.  signal remained weak but audible.  One happy Chanter ahoy!

that is one flipping nice catch!  :)  Maybe I stand a chance of hearing it yet.

I have it too.  Lovely show as always, but my bias is legendary by now. Stronger after 1 UTC when 40 meters opened up.

... *shudders*  I say again, thank God for international, public and community radio.  Really.

Chipping in here too.  I got my DX-398 as an eighteenth birthday gift in September of 2002.  Yes, you now know my age.  :)  I still have it, and it still works perfectly well almost twelve years later.  The last segment or so of the antenna is broken off and the battery compartment door went missing at a NASWA get-together the summer before last due to me dropping it someplace when changing batteries, but neither of those is a real issue at all.  The sensitivity on MW and LW really is excellent with that little radio; if I'm doing any serious MW or LW DX, chances are I'll fish it out.

They're using that song on a numbers station?  Oh jeez.  I know it's patriotic and fitting and whatever else but... ah crums.  I love that song!  Grumble grumble grumble...

It's generally Dutch and English they switch between, actually.  If you hear a KBC Imports advert and it's not in English, that's what it is.  And Nauen's in Germany...

I had PCJ as well!  Same details as you.  glad I wasn't the only one dealing with a godawful noise floor.  that was definitely the Family radio theme music at the end of the transmission, too.  that'd be the connection between WRMI and the old WYFR transmitter site kicking in.

If I'm not guilty of threadjacking, here's what I had this morning, log-wise:

11880, PCJ Radio International, 1350-1430.  Greetings to listeners around the world - India, Japan, Malaysia, Germany, Denmark and Italy among the locations given - a phone call to a listener in India, conversation about Chinese new year with a station staff member in studio, music, and a contest drawing for a pocket shortwave receiver.  the first person selected didn't pick up their phone, so the winner was the second person drawn; someone in Texas, USA.  WRMI ID and Family Radio theme music before off at 1430.  Signal fair to good at best, subject to one awful noise floor.  SINPO 43343.

15330, Radio Veritas Asia, 1440-1457.  Talk in listed Urdu, mostly by a female presenter, and music programming.  Off as scheduled at 1457.  Signal fair at best, contending with a loud noise floor.  SINPO 33333.

15340, Radio Habana cuba, 1440-1500.  Male and female presenters giving a list of the countries that had the most contact with RHC during 2013, complete with lists of listeners who'd written in and music specific to each country.  4, 3, 2, 1 went Venezuela, Spain, Brazil, and cuba itself.  New year's greetings at program's end, then into a feature report on medicine.  Signal very good, SINPO 54454.

15535, Radio Dabanga, 1603-1622.  conversation in sudanese Arabic, first between a presenter in studio and a phone interviewee, then between a second host and several listeners in succession, each with a telephone ring sound effect and a clear 'hello'.  Contemporary Arabic-language music near tune-out.  Clear spoken and singing Radio Dabanga IDs at 1607.  Signal fair to good, SINPO 44344.

Plus Firedrake on 12045, a weak Radio Free Chosun, and someone on 9680 who didn't sound like the usual CNR1 rubbish.  Could Taiwan have gotten through in the clear?  Light Mandarin pop music and mellow talk in a male voice.  Taiwan, or...

General Radio Discussion / Re: Pirate From Chile to test ----

I saw this too late to even try for the Chilean.  Darnit!  I love that they've taken inspiration from RNW, though.  Yo se exactamente que es esa inspiracion, porque me siento al mismo manera.

I hope they test again, and use a frequency that isn't stomped on by China.  Good luck, eh?

The same top 40, classic rock, and either Christian religious adult contemporary (funny how you can tell that genre just by the music, even before the singer starts in, isn't it?) and sportscasters.  Blurgh!

Thank God for the CBC, NPR, and local community stations.  that's all I'm saying.

Clearchannel wouldn't stand for it.
This is sounding better and better.  XD

I like the idea that all the lovely public radio stations get to keep their current assignments, save the handful above 92mHz, in this imagined setup.  So says she in a state with what's been termed a crackerjack setup for public broadcasting.  *biased!*

Just as a hypothetical, would noncommercial stations on frequencies above 92mHz be allowed to keep their places on the dial?  I'm thinking of a local WPR station on 107.9 here, as well as a certain public radio outlet in Michigan on 104.1 that I can sometimes get from the marshland.  Gotta love E-skip and tropo, eh?

Curious daydreamer is curious.

MW Loggings / Re: 530 AM stations
« on: January 03, 2014, 1214 UTC »
That classical station sounds like, though without an ID I can't say entirely for sure, Radio Enciclopedia from Cuba.  The other one doesn't seem like Rebelde from the same country, given your description of the content, but maybe?  I'd suggest matching a 530 signal to 5025 on SW, but Rebelde doesn't sign on until later on shortwave.  Pretty sure someone here said they took storm damage.

Could there be a Radio Progreso outlet on 530?  Or maybe you had somebody from XE-land (Mexico).  All I can say for sure is, none of those was Jil FM from Algeria!  XD  that's 531 anyway.  some day... sigh.

Did anybody have any luck hearing this?  I frakked up the time, so missed it.

I had them on December 26, still christmas Day here in the States.  It was definitely a good signal, SINPO 44344-ish into the Wisconsin marshland (my parents' place).  For whatever reason, that was the only night KBC came in well during their string of Wolfman broadcasts.  No idea what was going on there, but I'm glad I heard it once.
