HF Beacons / Re: New whooper beacon on 4095.65
« on: July 17, 2022, 0533 UTC »
Last night I rolled into Saint George, Utah around 11 PM and tuned in DW on the truck's Yaesu FT-857D and heard it faintly but clearly. Since the ATAS-120 antenna isn't made to go below 7 MHz I tune it to 8191 KHz and hope enough of the 4095.65 signal gets through. Will have to look at the 120 antenna with a network analyzer some day.

Back home tonight and DW is so strong I can easily hear it on the NRD-525 set to Narrow filter

The 4094 dasher  : a 1sec long dash with a 4 sec space..
I have caught this beacon two nights in a row around 0300 utc and again 1100 utc...
solid copy above the noise ...
I need to do some research on this beacon.

It sounds as if it is different than UFO.....
4094.0  id's UFO TMP three times, after TMP two numbers are sent then back to dashes. On the air around Nov 2020

HF Beacons / Re: The Mud Duck 4095.16
« on: July 05, 2022, 1448 UTC »
I am hearing it on a KFS kiwi. My earliest record of hearing Mud Duck seems to be in April

EDIT: I now see that I added it to the active Beacon list on Jan 31, 2022

Another Edit: It seems I logged it the first time on January 1st   https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91059.msg291212.html#msg291212

It’s great to see that CS on 4109.3 is providing nice DX

I demand an SDR with knobs. And more flying penguin talk with that good SoCal boy, Al Fansome, passed on, and unable to carry on the fight.

Elecraft KX3
TrUSDX
USDX+
etc have knobs

I could get you a flying penguin tShirt but digging up Fansome is right out   ;D

General Radio Discussion / Re: Posting images on the HFU
« on: July 01, 2022, 0119 UTC »
Can someone please post contemporary instructions to post images here ?

I've gone through most of the legacy instructions, yet....

I fixed your post    8)

It's the one "Mod Power" I find to be useful....

The bottom line is, whatever code you copy out of any image you want the one that ends in    .jpeg  or .jpg   or similar,

like this  https://i.imgur.com/myAGosE.jpeg

I went to your post, did a quote function, saw the non-jpeg image code, copied that, went to that link and then.....
I right clicked on the image and selected "COPY IMAGE ADDRESS" which gave me the jpeg address which I pasted between the bracketed image command I outlined in my previous post. No matter what web site you find the image on this approach generally works.

Marmot pix I lifted from my blog...

Slow dasher sends 8 slow dashes then what sounds like SFI twice.

Great signal into KFS SE kiwi!

2097.315 KHz    "A" beacon, weak to fair signal here
4095.670 KHz    DW. Good signal with some slow fading here.  BAT 13.0  OTMP 78  ITMP 87  PV 1
4109.360 KHz    Coast Slider, weak but readable slow whoops, sometimes coming up well out of the noise. Neat to hear it at home!

It seems that the KFS SDRs may be having more issues than I recently reported to the owner/operators

(see   https://forum.kiwisdr.com/index.php?p=/discussion/2605/possible-bug-with-public-facing-gui-fixed-in-v1-523 )

Now that DW is coming in strong this evening it sounds just fine. However, I found this interesting issue reported by our very own forum owner (Smolinski) and it makes me wonder if that is what made DW sound glitchy on the KFS SE kiwi.
