General Radio Discussion / Re: Fixed Service radio frequencies
« on: February 09, 2014, 0051 UTC »
Fixed as opposed to mobile. There are users on the "pirate band" mostly government/military. I hear link11 around 6970 & the TSA/MARS PACTOR mode on 6996. Elsewhere in the world there's more 6900 - 7000 khz users. Look on the U Twente sdr & you will see many of them.

The recent WRTH update has details for a new clandestine radio aimed at Rwanda from a transmitter in Madagascar. Time is 1700-1800 UT daily on 17540 kHz, programming in Kinyarwanda and Kirundi languages. They have a website with an embedded audio stream player at RadioImpala.com, on silent stream when I checked at 1220 UT but perhaps active at the  SW broadcast times.
This time and frequency was formerly used by another Rwandan clandestine, Radio Mara, so I guess this supplants it.

David Kernick, Interval Signals Online  via dxld

I was already listening to what I thought was Radio Mara on 17540 when I read this. My Kinyarwanda is a little rusty (or non-existent) so I have no idea what the 2 speakers were on about but the signal from Madagascar was excellent this morning, S9+10 at times. I listened for an ID but didn't catch one but I missed the start of the show so I don't know for sure who I heard on 17540 this morning.

I did find some other mention of Impala on line but again my Kinyarwanda failed me & google seems to think it is in English.

btw the radioimpala.com site says it is "broadcasting from Kigali, Rwanda" so...a local fm that is relayed on SW?

S4 to S6 in KCMO on R 75/AD DX-SWL sloper. I honestly had forgotten I had this rig. I've been using my SDR-IQ & various portables so much lately. Listening in ECSS with excellent results.

I am hearing CRI English via Kashi Saibagh on 9420 at 1:10z. Usually blocked by Greece. Parallel to 9410 (also via Kashi but with 5 times the power).

They came on 9420 at 7:30 UTC According to DX Remix news

Token knows way , way more than anybody here about the snake charmer but I don't think there is any relationship between JT65 & the snake charmer. JT65 is a weak signal mode originally used for Earth Moon Earth contacts. They exchange calls & signal reports & that's about it. I always want ice cream when I hear JT65 as it reminds me of the jaunty little tune of the good humor man.

I've always thought Radio Free Asia to be a waste of taxpayer dollars but its a private corporation. They are still probably ultimately funded by the US treasury though. Are we the only country that still runs propaganda stations like this?

Checking at 13:00 utc I find CNR1 jammer atop RFA Tibetan service on 9350.

Wait...during a quiet moment on CNR I think I can hear FD in there too. Multiple jammers are their thing lately. Lots of CNR/noise/firedrake all on one channel.

Not sure because the speakers on my laptop are worthless & I am not at home & have no head phones. Having qualified my statement thoroughly I think its JT 65 a weak signal ham mode.

Heard while I was at a friends house playing guitars & he asked about "that pirate crap your always talking about". I just happened to have my PL660 in my backpack. Good strong signal with cool punk rock female vocalist music. Thanks for being there when I needed you XLR8.

He was found with not only a spike In his arm but 7 bags of dope , 5 of them empty. Not to sound cold hearted but the guy was asking for it. As a recovered (or recovering) addict I know of what I speak here.  To do that much stuff ..alone , nobody to help you should you "go out" is foolish, to put it mildly (doing it at all is pretty foolish). I like to think I survived my 25 years in heroin hell by always knowing when to stop & never doing what he apparently did. PSH was a brilliant talent & its a great loss. What a waste.

JBA in Missouri. It's a little early for decent reception out here but RFW is barely audible on peaks but mostly not there.
