Last night not very good condition again on 300khz.

Chris,
In coming spring, I will test, how big such EWE antenna suitable for DGPS reception (arround 300kHz) really needs to be.
Note, that at the moment it is a normal passive antenna - no pre-amp used as well. Simply long 75Ohm cable-TV coax connected into ELAD FDM-S2

Perhaps one can set-up such antenna with half size also - which will be much more practical for most people.
Currently there is plenty of output of such giant EWE - advantage is, that is usable down to approximately 100khz - below a small active, vertical monopole will be always better

Note that such large EWE is only very useful below 1Mhz ! Above the LZ1AQ loops are very good

Longwave Loggings / no copy of YEK last night in Belgium...

Conditions last night (6-7Febr) were very different...
Much weaker signals from LT and no copy of YEK this time.
I published my results of DGPS reception in the DGPS folder, for propagation judgements...

Lots of NDB beacons though - I have not reviewed my recordings yet ...

Hello,
another night with my experimental very large EWE, scaled for LW, as much as possible to increase the sensitivity. For sure it works better as my 170m Beverages

I deleted the obvious wrong decodes. (Strokes)
There seem to be a systematic fault with the many wrong decodes of the Japanese Ose Saki DGPS on the same frequency as the local dutch one. It seems, the Station ID (ID) is misunderstood with the ReflID number...

I am not sure about BOBO, MS - here are the decode times:

Could be possible! I will check with another DGPS decoder just this frequency at that time (Multipsk)

You are correct - on this frequency I cannot hear anything else than the strong dutch beacon - so Panama is certainly a false decode... sorry !
This evening very noisy condition with currently heavy thunderstorms north of Tunesia... lots of noise!

Yes - picture of antenna is attached... The experimental giant EWE is much better than my 170m Beverage in same direction...

Beverages are used usually at nighttime at my web-radio you can connect through the Internet.
The Beverage antennas are better for frequencies ABOVE 1Mhz to 7Mhz... The very large EWE does not function as a real EWE above 1Mhz, because it is simply too large. So it is a real specialist antenna for NDB and DPGS. With higher frequencies the giant EWE looses directivity and noise increases heavily...
Instead at 1Mhz and above the Beverage become really long wires, as frequency increases and become more and more directive. Therefore noise on Beverages DECREASES with higher frequencies....

Many thanks for some more tricks with your great software, Chris...
I have not checked too much with the times of decoding - it takes some time...

Fortunately I can replay the recordings in my SDR and listen (perhaps try to decode just a single audio channel in a small CW-filter with some other software)
I just deleted from the list stations which are obviously false decodes, such as some Asian stations
My max Zvalue is set to 6 (as advised in your help file)...
Also PC is connected to time-server over the internet

When checking the Audiofiles I found really lots of North-American NDB signals - amazing !!
LT 305kHz, from Alert Bay, 800km from North pole is 15-20db over the noise the whole night !
YEK from Arviat, Nunavut, Canada can be heard as well....

So, even extremly weak stations can be heard from North-America...

Let me check the recordings and try to sort out false stations...
Panama and Brazil is for sure suspicious to me...

Longwave Loggings / Re: NDB "LT" on 305kHz very loud last night in Belgium

Also heard here in Belgium at just after 4h utc this morning:
329khz "YEK"  - Arviat NDB, Nunavut, Canada

Signal strength was just enough to clearly identify the station, as there was some weak QRM from Jersey NDB and Norway, even I used 100Hz CW-filter
According to Arviat Airport website, they use 500wtts power - radiated power is probably only about 10wtts, due to the high losses at such low frequency.

Amazing, what can be done, if propagation is well
I found that at our local sunrise propagation picked up at least 10db for only 10min or less... didn't know that sunrise peak is so pronounced at such low frequency...
My lowest frequency of activity was 1.8Mhz amateur radio in the past...

Hi,
just newly registered from Belgium...

Here is my first NDB-log:
305kHz - LT, Alert Bay from very northern Canada...
oud here in Belgium
Almost all night 15db over noiselevel with peak of 20db S/N ratio at peaks.

Here are my reception reports from last night in Belgium
Reveiver: Elad FDM-S2
Antenna: Giant EWE to Northwest in semi-rural area

Note that there are some stations only decoded very few times. However I hardly have any possibility to veryfy the spots. On the other hand, I heard NDB "LT" on 305kHz very loud (15-20db signal to noise ratio) - so it is clear, that stations from 5000km away or more can be very loud here, if propagation is well...
I have no idea, if central and south America may be valid decodes... probably not... so please be careful!

Canadian stations were very loud here - VOCM on 590kHz was S9+20db sometimes last night!

Hello !
I'm new registered to this forum...
Just starting to discover the NDB-band at low frequency from 250kHz up to 500khz

My location is in the western part of Belgium, semi-rural almost flat area, agricultural sourrounding.
Locator is jo10os
My amateur radio call is ON5KQ ...

Last night (5th to 6th of Febr) especially at about 22h utc on 5thFebr, I heard NDB "LT" from most northern part of Canada very loud ! I think the Signal to noise ratio in my 200Hz CW-filter was about 15db or more... amazing!
Also some USA amateur stations heard on 474khz Amateurradio band in WSPR mode. So there seem to be good conditions !

My antenna is a very large EWE antenna to Northwest for the bands below 500kHz - 20m vertical up - 60m horizontal at 20m - 20m vertical down to ground swamp resistor 500Ohm, feeding with broadband matching transformer.
This antenna is much more quit than my 170m Beverage in the same direction and at the same time the giant EWE has same voltage output (same efficiency) than the Beverage.... so really great antenna, which I would recommend for DGPS/NDB band.
The antenna is spanned between two high trees.

I made recordings from last night and will process the files for DGPS decoding and post the results in the DGPS file of this Forum...

DGPS / Re: DGPS Logs 4-5 Feb 2018

Chris,
how do you process the many recorded files ? Unfortunately I found, that the decoder software CANNOT monitor the I/Q file directory and process new files as mentioned in the current help file.
I am using latest software version 1.09 on latest Windows 10 and brandnew PC...

I need to process 90 files from last night manually. Is there any proven way to batch process these 90 recording files to one by one process them through the software ?
Monitoring and process new I/Q files doesn't work... ;-(

However reception was great last night.... ! Will post results later today...
