Shortwave broadcaster, Radio Mali (West Africa) with some interesting music, multiple ID's and some anomalies... recorded 08:00 GMT / 03:00 EST on January 12, 2025.

Recording starts with a messed up sign on at 08:00 GMT. Listen to the guitar, the playback speed is off. This is an analog error by the station of some sort. Later in this recording they get it right so you can hear the difference.

After their broadcast started, the first 30 minutes was all talk, mostly in Arabic, so I did NOT record that segment.

I resumed recording at about 08:30 GMT (starts at the 48 second mark) just in time for their sign off of for the first half of their broadcast.

Radio Mali 9635 kHz 0800 UTC 12-JAN-2025

They then went silent for exactly two minutes (I edited that out of the recording too) and then signed back on. Listen to the guitar at the 2 minute mark sign on and compare to the start of the broadcast.

BTW, the sign on at the 2 minute mark has a nice dramatic flourish.

At 08:32 GMT they signed back on (in French) and played all music for the second half of the broadcast.

09:00 GMT they signed back out. Music over. I stopped recording. Clip ends.
Many ID's given during the broadcast in French.

Monster signal here in North Florida! Rock steady S-20 signal with almost zero fades.

Have been listening for nearly an hour and enjoying the mix - thank you for making real radio!

12:46 UTC 23 Aug 2023 - Ch 16VHF (156.8 MHz) - USCGC Vigilant. Received via the Broadcastify remote receiver in Port Canaveral, FL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EnrPQVCU-E

USCG Cutter Vigilant with a "Securite" message as they were leaving Port Canaveral and advising other mariners as they made their way out of port. Also advised that they would be monitoring VHF Channels 13 and 16.

It is only a 37 second clip - first 5 or 6 seconds is routine port operations traffic - followed by USCGC Vigilant and ending with an announcement by USCG Jacksonville Sector as the clip fades out...

Except for this one - all of my radio recordings are of stations that I've heard on my own monitoring equipment in Florida. THIS recording - was made from a remote receiver located in Port Canaveral and available on Broadcastify,

Here's a link to the "Broadcastify" VHF maritime page where you can find Port Canaveral and other maritime monitoring stations online:

16804.5 kHz USB / DSC 15:55 UTC 6 AUG 2023 - Distress Call Received - while decoding HF maritime DSC calls this morning - received a distress call.

Ship MMSI is 352001400 which according to Vessel finder is the SINOOCEAN HARVEST ... but errors are often made in decode.
This one however was also received by the USCG in Point Reyes and they have rebroadcast the distress call as they apparently consider it legit ... both calls captured in this screenshot.

Mystery Solved! Yesterday I logged and posted what I thought to be a "PAN-PAN" message. Heard again today with positive ID.

22 July 23 09:47 UTC 8291 kHz. One minute YouTube clip :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPW8zthCPjY

Message starts - repeated three times - with "PAN PAN" "All Stations" "This is RCC Australia"  "Victor India Charlie"

Missing vessel "Anytime" - besides the PAN PAN message the only info I can find online about this incident is on a  Facebook post :

https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=748853413912263&set=a.505556054908668

I do believe that call sign VIC was simulcasting on same the frequency with multiple transmitters but will try to confirm that.

21 July 2023 09:48 UTC 8291 kHz - International calling / distress frequency. English - can you help ID?

PAN PAN urgent maritime message? Hoping that somebody will recognize some clue that I missed!

Pan - Pan is not real clear until the third time it's spoken, but even then it's not really clear ... definitely not Sécurité, or Mayday. Two minute clip of entire message. Signal is quite noisy.

At about 55 seconds into clip - something about one "overdue one person aboard" or something like that. Only understanding bits and pieces. No ID on coastal station but sounds like Australian or NZ?

Ifrikya FM Shortwave - 15110 kHz - Béchar, Algeria - ID in English - 06:32 UTC

I had been listening to their music broadcast on several frequencies over a few hours. At 06:30 UTC the announcer said , in French, something like "flash d'information" - I took this to be "news headlines" and the next two minutes (exactly) was all spoken programming.

At precisely 06:32 they began a 30 second ID spot and the very first ID (at 6 seconds) is in English - "Welcome to Ifrikya FM" followed by ID's in several other languages and my favorite at 20 seconds in "Ifrikya FM, la voix Afrique".

Ifrikya FM @ 06:32 UTC July 20, 2023 - 15110 kHz. 30 second YouTube clip. ID in English (and other languages) :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKsCwRnEqwY

Received in North Florida USA on a Kenwood TS-590 and a resonant ground mounted vertical antenna over a buried radial field.

Correction, I had originally posted this transmission as coming from the Ouargla transmitter site but - my error - this frequency is coming from the Béchar, Algeria broadcast facility. I have corrected the Youtube clip description but the thumbnail will take a little longer to resolve...

Recently logged and recorded ID in English from two stations that no longer broadcast in English on shortwave.

Yesterday, Radio Saudi International - 21670 kHz @ 11:50 UTC - Indonesian language broadcast - with ID in English at 22 seconds into clip - there are actually three ID announcements in this one minute clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtKRDCQG2zQ

A few weeks ago I heard and recorded - All India Radio (AIR) - 15030 kHz @12:15 UTC April 11, 2023 - They began their Swahili service with ID in English :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esnXfn4NcoY

Both stations as heard in Florida, USA using a Kenwood TS-590 with a ground mounted vertical antenna over a buried radial field.

YouTube clip of three separate ID's in English from Radio Europe, a low power* broadcaster in Holland on 6130 kHz. Total clip runtime is a minute and a half:

ID #1 at :12 seconds
ID #2 at :43 seconds
ID #3 at 1:07 min/seconds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBivemuXV38

*In their email they stated... "6130 has a continuous power of 600 Watt pep this transmitter is running in a quiet position can deliver more power."

If they truly mean 600 watts PEP - then this would really be about 150 watts AM carrier. Either way they are using very low power for shortwave broadcasting!

These ID clips taken from listening/recording session on Jan 26, 2023 from 05:37 until 7:37 UTC.

Reception was noticeably better on the horizontal NVIS antenna than the vertical

03:00 UTC - Unfortunately, disappointing. Conditions are not so good tonight. Weak and noisy with fading;
03:05 UTC - Unreadable and fading into the noise floor.

RSPduo | Barker & Williamson T2FD antenna

Thank you for the feedback. It was weird last night - some places that normally have a good signal were very noisy and some locations (that are usually noisy) were much stronger.

Thank you!
