Shortwave Broadcast / More New Frequency Allocations
« on: November 09, 2013, 2115 UTC »
During Nov 7 and 8, I discovered more new frequency operations for the international broadcasters ….. and I'm sure that there are many more still waiting out there for me!   ;D  There are several other observations that may be of interest as well.

Shortwave Broadcast / B13 New Frequencies
« on: October 30, 2013, 1132 UTC »
Many, many new frequencies noted since the start of B13. I'm getting quite a list together but it's way too long to include here. I'll put together the list of stations so far noted in a couple of days time on my blog at www.medxr.blogspot.com. But here's a small sample:

5930   ENGLAND.  VoV - Woofferton.  Vietnamese service to Eu s/on 2130, NF and only audible at s/on, gone by 2137, Oct 28.

5950   NEW ZEALAND.  RNZI - Rangitaiki. S/on 1300 with news, NF ex 6170 to Pacific, scheduled through to s/off 1700, Oct 28.

5955   AUSTRIA.  VoV - Moosbrunn. English to UK at 1816, into Vietnamese 1830, NF ex 9625 and one hour later for B13, fair on Oct 29.

6190   USA. KNLS - Anchor Pt. Surprised to hear this at 1637 in Russian under BBC-Meyerton with hymns and preaching. NF ex 9655 to Eastern Russia. Weak signal and no sign of China either! Oct 29.

9615 USA. KNLS - Anchor Pt. English on this NF ex 9655 for this time period. HFCC lists this as Mandarin, but apparently the station has other ideas! Would be a fair signal if not for severe QRM CNR 2 9620, Oct 30.

11770 SOUTH AFRICA. AWR - Meyerton. Preaching in the Masai service to EAf, NF ex 9600. Quagmire of a frequency due to PBS Xinjiang and some type of jamming noise. Both AWR and PBS s/off 1800 leaving just the jamming! Oct 29.

11785 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. IBRA - Dhabayya. At 1751 with Afro style hymns in the Swahili service to EAf, NF ex 11875, nice signal to s/off 1800, Oct 29.

11820 GERMANY. VOA - Lampertheim. NF ex 11985 for Kurdish at 1747 and // 9655, Oct 29.

Equipment / The Double Bazooka Antenna - A YouTube Review
« on: October 20, 2013, 0321 UTC »
Over the past few months, I have been experimenting with two new antennas: the 80 and 40 meter Double Bazookas. It's been a lot of fun trying out these and comparing them to my existing Par End Fed SWL antenna. AND.... I have been compiling a video that introduces this antenna design, looks at its construction and documents its results. I hope you enjoy the video…..and if you do, please share it with others!

I have compiled a new 9-page survey of Latin American broadcasters, as monitored here at Mount Evelyn, Victoria, AUS. It covers mainly domestic but also some international stations over the period between March and August this year. Also included are some tips on QSLing the Latins. The link for downloading is available at the MEDXR Blog. I hope you find it useful.
