PLC, (Power Line Communications.), seems to be the more modern term for Carrier-Current Coupling. Power line companies and mining companies still use this a lot for data communications and controlling. And, yes, DSL for internet is doing this as well, and just disrupting the medium wave bands over here. Then again, AM Carrier-Current Coupling is a permissible way to get on radio over here in USA and Canada license-free. One advantage of this method is that the power lines carry the signal to anyone within range that is also on the same power line, with a range anywhere from .5km to several km. However, disadvantages are, no power lines to an area, no coverage. And, power step-down transformers also block medium wave signal. Hey, perks and jerks to everything.
