Equipment / Re: IC 7200 speaker audio jack short
« on: August 14, 2021, 1851 UTC »
What I've done on on 3.5mm, (1/8"), jacks is spray silicon spay on a plug, then plug it in / out several times. Don't spray into the jack itself with the Si spray. However, if you have Contact / TV Tuner Cleaner spray handy, you can spray that in there. That might save you a trip inside the rig itself.

Huh... That might be it. I'm near the Capital Region of WV, (They still call it Tri-State, WV, KY, and OH.) And, that night array is coming from their back-side, if that's indeed them. https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?sr=Y&s=C&call=wcsz&nav=home     THANKS!!!!!!

MW Loggings / Mystery Spanish modern music station 1070kHz.
« on: August 13, 2021, 0716 UTC »
Several night, while it's still dark, I've found a pretty strong music station jamming reggae, Hip-Hop, and EDM, but all of it, including announcements and jingles, are in Spanish. Well, since No hablo espaņol, I have yet to ID this station. Anyone else hearing this on 1070kHz?

Huh??? I heard that test over commercial radio EAS, but nothing came up on NOAA 162MHz Weather Radio. It was my understanding that any national tests were to also go over that. Just, an observation.

This could be interesting.   https://www.fema.gov/event/ipaws-national-test   Word on da' street also has it that cell phones and even another test of an internet kill-switch might happen then. Hmmmmmm... Could be interesting to listen for.

General Radio Discussion / Re: US CB to get FM? It is now.

Apparently, the FCC approved this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XevGDwC0_Z0  So, Cobra asked for this? Others should follow.

General Radio Discussion / Re: PLC communications 04 Aug 2021
« on: August 04, 2021, 2053 UTC »
PLC, (Power Line Communications.), seems to be the more modern term for Carrier-Current Coupling. Power line companies and mining companies still use this a lot for data communications and controlling. And, yes, DSL for internet is doing this as well, and just disrupting the medium wave bands over here. Then again, AM Carrier-Current Coupling is a permissible way to get on radio over here in USA and Canada license-free. One advantage of this method is that the power lines carry the signal to anyone within range that is also on the same power line, with a range anywhere from .5km to several km. However, disadvantages are, no power lines to an area, no coverage. And, power step-down transformers also block medium wave signal. Hey, perks and jerks to everything.

Well, it's about time! As long as it's NBFM, that should reduce AM overmod, splatter, and RFI. Should have been done years ago. Still, won't be heard as well as SSB, especially on the road, but could be better on the road than present AM, where you can get an earful of +30 lbs of noise levels. Now, will someone capitalize on making FM board kits for all those radios out there presently? Several companies did in the 1980's and 1990's.

Heard this on Amateur Radio Newsline #2282. With Sporadic "E" still in play, this should make for an interesting catch! https://ei7gl.blogspot.com/2021/07/new-us-experimental-station-wl2xup-now.html

Heard again on drive home. I knew that this station had nice audio, but hearing Asia - Heat Of The Moment, and near full fidelity of that tune, like the high hats, and heard on a fairly narrow banded truck stereo, told me that the ENG of this station knew how to EQ this station well. Now, I want to hear this station on a wide-band receiver.
