General Radio Discussion / Re: Pirates on 13900 kHz range?
« on: February 18, 2015, 0235 UTC »
A few have used it over the years with good results.

The problem is that pirate listener's are generally frequency sitters. They'll tune around the popular frequency of the time, but that's it. Even with the advent of SDR's most listeners are content to scan from roughly 6770 to 6970 khz. these days.

The pirates tend to go where the listeners are and vice-versa.

It's always fun to screw around off the established frequencies, especially now that we're in the days of the interwebz and much less crowding on the SW broadcast bands, just to see how many "WTH?" reports you'll get via email from random SW listeners.

Shut down HAARP activities next week, Al. Winterfest is coming up.

Andy Yoder won't be able to wear his shorts if we keep burying the region under feet of snow. You know how the hot radio chicks like to check out his gams.

I've actually had RS employees refer me to Digikey and Mouser a number of times in the past two decades when I was looking for parts.

The key to dealing with RS in the past few years was locating the lone geek amongst the phone salesmen in the store. They normally could be found in the back of the store fooling around with some project on their down time.

I wish I still had it. That's the first 45 I paid for. Cost me nearly all of my fifty cents a week allowance.

I know. I think I'll stop by the local one and stock up on coax seal before they lock the doors.

Why hello, Kurtz. I see you've left the Congo Basin for the Mackenzie River.

That tooth extraction thing? I'm sorry about that. I was in the service of King Babar in those days. The implant was our only means of tracking your poaching activities.

Don't be pestering the narwhals and walruses, while you're up there, you'll force Mr. Fansome to fire up HAARP. You know what a nasty jolt it delivers when it activates that implant.

Good luck in this years Yukon Quest. Mr. Fansome went out of his way to create prime weather for the event.

BTW, keep an eye out for Hap Shaughnessy. He's got something up his toque for this years event.

Nearly all modern shortwave receivers will tune to 1720.

Jim Walter Homes, LOL! They weren't beloved in this part of Appalachia.

They built a display lot and sales office on what used to be the local baseball field when I was a teenager. That big yellow plastic sign had more holes through it than a screen door from rocks and gunshots from angry locals.

That's what they get for putting down a gravel parking lot full of egg sized rocks over the old ballfield.

Killer signal here Fred. "Redneck Rampage" is one of my favorite Mojo Nixon songs.

Back in the days when there was a lot of radio telephone traffic from oil rigs in the Gulf to onshore stations, I heard an interesting series of conversations between a man and woman. They were on almost every night for a month, romancing each other in AM mode around 6240 Khz. She was in Florida and judging by his accent he hailed from S. Louisiana and was on a rig.

One night while listening for Europirates, I heard her calling him. A different male voice comes back, "He had to quit, honey, his wife heard the two of you talking."

"The View"? What's "The View"? One of those home video shows?

Did she break through the glass walkway that juts out over the rim of the Grand Canyon? That would be worth a view. Ignoring weight limits will get you every time.

Now, what are you going to do about those jackrabbits, Feeble-Eyed Fansome?

It's a Guatemalan religious broadcaster. I think they call themselves Radio Verdad?

They're an easy catch here in the Southeast US after dark. They run pay for play US preachers late at night after their regular programming. They claim to run 5 kW.

I saw Bowie's "Diamond Dogs" tour back in '74.

The pertinent question is; What in the Hell are you and your sister going to do about those damned jackrabbits?
