Clandestine Stations / National Unity Radio, 9885 AM, 05 MAY 2018, 1215 UTC

Good copy of program transmitted from Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Male and female radio hosts, the latter of which sounded like she was interviewing another woman. It will be interesting to see what happens with Korean clandestines if peace is achieved on the peninsula.

General Radio Discussion / Voice of Korea broadcast time changes have taken effect

Currently listening to French broadcast on 9435 AM (rough copy but legible enough). It began at 1600 when it was previously scheduled for 1630. (Although North Korea moved forward by half an hour, from UTC+8.5 to UTC+9, the effect on the broadcasts is that they now start half an hour earlier.) I wasn't listening in earlier because their signals haven't been good this morning, but I'm guessing that they made the change either at 1500 UTC, when Korean Standard time was at midnight May 5th, or at 1530 when the Pyongyang time zone hit that mark.

A few days ago North Korea Tech speculated that the thawing relations between North and South would lead to and end, or at least a detente, on the radio wars front. To that end, it will be interesting to see which clandestines are still on the air the next time I can copy them (in my QTH, that's generally 1000-1400).

10/11 meters / Super Bowl channel, 27025, very active on May 02

Currently 1529 as I type this, but I've been on this frequency since 1450 or so. Channel 11 (27085) also busy today. I'm hoping there's going to be an opening to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean as well, but no luck when I've checked the 26 MHz frequencies they favor.

Two notable things today. One, a number group that had only preceded to a final digit of 5 was replaced by a new number group, one with the rare ending of 0 rather than 1. Second, file 15132218.txt APPEARS TO BE UNENCRYPTED, but in Chinese. At least, I think it's Chinese and not Japanese. I'm not really great at telling the two apart. Anyway, it can be downloaded from the link below in the next comment.

Halftime at the moment. I haven't been able to copy much because I had to address a feedline issue, plus I'm trying to capture a new HM01 file for the log. But good S7 signal here in Denver from what I believe to be tx from Ascension Island. Some fades. Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 1 Manchester United.

EDIT 1733: The signal has faded to the point where it's about the noise floor level, slightly above perhaps, but too weak for my hearing damaged ears to make out what's being said. However, it's pretty clear that the match isn't being covered any longer.

Noted on the waterfall when playing back my SDR recording of the 43m band. Carrier visible, but wasn't sure what it was until I noticed modulation. When I tuned I could hear a faint MFSK32 transmission, and got the following decode with Fldigi, starting at 0057 (it was too weak to decode before that time). IBC was on WRMI 7700 at that time, so this was a spur from that broadcast.

19m freebanders speaking Spanish I think - it's hard to catch enough words to recognize, so there's the possibility that it's Portuguese. One op has a strong signal that's noisy enough to look almost like a STANAG signal on the waterfall. Maybe he has a big fan in the room with him.

Actually getting a lock and decode of this broadcast using Dream software. A few dropouts which are becoming ever slightly more frequent as I write this at 1814 UTC. Signal was reaching S8 levels and SNR in the 18 range, so I guess that's the minimum needed for decoding DRM. What a waste, this would be a very good AM signal at these levels.

(E.g., on 06 APR group 76663 was sent, and you would expect today's to be 76664; however it was 02034.) Lots of strange things today. First, a number group that had progressed only to a final digit of 3 was replaced by a new number group, rather than the one ending in 8. Second, that new number group was sending the same file as number group 0353# during the first half hour of 1600/11435 transmission. It sent the correct new file during the second half, in which many Windows error sounds were heard for the first few minutes. Finally, at 16:38:46, the transmission suddenly cut out, but not the signal. It came back on at 16:41:39.
