« on: August 25, 2011, 0639 UTC »
8/25/11, 6925 USB
0625z: "Smoke from a Distant Fire", "Brandy", "Drift Away", "How Long Has This Been Going On", Radio Ga-Ga ID's every few minutes.

Best via Colorado remote tuner, occasionally audible here at home via R30C and indoor fugloop.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Unid (Captain Ron?) 6925U
« on: August 23, 2011, 0157 UTC »
8/23/11, 6925 USB
Since around 0124z, hearing rock music (don't recognize any of it yet - one song sounded like Chris Cornell's voice, Soundgarden or Audioslave), some chatter about equipment, anncr sounded like Captain Ron Shortwave, but local RFI "zot!" partially obscured ID.
0155z: Off or faded out.
SINPO=32432, occasional peaks above noise for a few seconds, mostly buried in local RFI.

North American Shortwave Pirate / XFM 6950 USB
« on: August 21, 2011, 0504 UTC »
8/21/11, 6950 USB, 0500z: Just tuned in, Filter "Take a Picture", 311 "Sunset in July", anncr ID and comments.
0504z: SSTV, full moon and "Music To The Power of X" slogan
SINPO=42423, good peaks to S9 on the indoor loop, partially obscured by fades and heavy local RFI.  Audio seems very good.

North American Shortwave Pirate / 6930 AM unid
« on: August 20, 2011, 0349 UTC »
8/20/11, 6930.3 AM (approx - some drifting): Since approx 0245z, hearing AM station near 6930.  Mostly unintelligible chatter or commentary.
0342z: Midnight Oil "Beds Are Burning", first bit of audio I could ID, the rest still unintelligible.

SINPO=33222, very tough copy through heavy static crashes and fades.

Very rough conditions, no better via various Global Tuner remotes I tried.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Unid 6930 USB
« on: August 20, 2011, 0251 UTC »
8/20/11, 6930 USB, 0227z: Music and occasional commentary or narrative from OM announcer.  Only able to ID Mike Oldfield "Tubular Bells".
0243z: Carrier on 6930.5 fired up over the unid 6930 USB station.
0250z: Lost 6930 USB station; faint audio from 6930.3 AM.

SINPO=33222, very crashy QRN, lots of fading, tough to copy much on 6930 USB station.  Nothing audible from 6930.5 AM station.

0414z: "Tubular Bells" USB, and narrative - voice sounds like Dr. Benway, but couldn't copy positive ID.
0418z: Offspring "Gotta Get Away"
0442z: Mentioned various pirate radio programs - United Patriot Militia Bingo, others.

Per Sealord's log, this may have been Captain Ron Shortwave, but ID's were obscured by noise here.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Mustang Radio 6925 AM
« on: August 18, 2011, 2313 UTC »
(This catch via Global Tuners remote in Nova Scotia - not a peep here in Gopher Stomp.)

8/18/11, 6925 AM, 2250z-2310z: Pop/rock music just barely audible, signal peaked enough at 2300z to copy fairly clear Mustang Radio ID.  Peaked again around 2310z, Deep Purple "Smoke on the Water", another ID and announcer chatter (partially obscured by nearby QSO).
SINPO=24332

North American Shortwave Pirate / CQRM ? 6925 (late log)
« on: August 16, 2011, 2347 UTC »
Missed this the other night - was listening to Radio True North via Global Tuners remote, caught a couple of UNIDs via my own receiver.

8/10/11, 6925, approx. between 0230z-0500z (no time stamp on my recorder): Between carrier for Radio True North (or other?) and a USB station playing punk rock, caught what sounded like ID's for CQRM, or (CQ calling RM?).  YL with French or other accent w/ phonetic ID's "Charlie-Quebec-Romeo-Mike".  Very distorted with harsh buzzing noise accompanying ID's.  Due to noise and fades, not sure whether this was same station also playing punk rock, or a milcom. ???

Can't access my regular MediaFire account right now, so this mp3 link will expire in a few days:

General Radio Discussion / Dutch SW/MW pirate Midlife Radio busted
« on: August 16, 2011, 2032 UTC »
Per Radio Doctor Tim blog, via Google translation:

Quote
Severe attack from the Dutch PTT / AT – MW/SW Station raided!
"That was a real shock! During his program, known by the radio station (Midlife Radio) holl AT was plucked from the ether. For many years this was the first (again become known) raid an AM station. Our sympathy goes to all OP Henk, who is now doubt totally devastated the things awaiting them which are coming towards him. Henk Chin up ...."

PTT is the Dutch telecom regulatory authority.  Not sure what AT refers to - my Google-fu failed me.

Global Tuner catch via Colorado:
8/10/11, 6925 AM, 0245-0305z: Radio True North spinning Van Halen 1984 on vinyl.  Very rough conditions, just able to copy familiar songs like "Jump" and "Panama".  Off after Radio True North ID.  SINPO=34232, fighting constant heavy static crashes and fades, only minor ute/data QRM.  Caught a carrier here at home that corresponded with RTN's 6924.7 signal.

Listening via Cumbria, UK, DX global tuner remote (not a peep here at home in the US)
8/8/11, 4015 AM, 0200-0230z: Clear ID's for Laser Hot Hits, long track "Song of the Marching Children" by Earth & Fire, theme from "Elvira Madigan".  DJ commenting about length of tracks like "Song of the Marching Children" making them unsuitable for contemporary music radio formats.  Very true, shortwave pirate stations now remind me of some of the better FM stations during the late 1960s-mid 1970s that left the playlist to the DJ's discretion and often included whole album sides.

Conditions seemed generally good to the Cumbria UK tuner for 4015, with some fading and static crashes along with heterodyne that might have been due to the Icom PCR-1000 (those seem vulnerable to intermod and phantom signals from nearby flamethrower MW stations).  Not a peep of Laser Hot Hits on 6940-6945.

Fun to play with these Global Tuners remotes - it's perversely reassuring that everyone worldwide is suffering the same mediocre propagation on HF.

North American Shortwave Pirate / RTN 6925 AM
« on: August 05, 2011, 0548 UTC »
8/5/11, 6925 AM 0430z- (not watching clock): Heard Stones "Gimme Shelter", Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio", others.  Fair to good via Colorado remote tuner, not quite as good in Arizona, just a carrier here at home.  Very heavy static crashes tonight.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Unid 6925 AM
« on: August 03, 2011, 1127 UTC »
8/3/11, 6925 AM (maybe 6925.1), 0430z: Fairly steady carrier, music and OM voice, but buried under fierce static crashes. If I had to guess, what little I could copy of the voice sounded like the fellow from Paranoid News Service (I think that was Radio Free Manitoba, relayed by NRS?). About the same via Wisconsin and Colorado remote tuners. Just a faint carrier and a couple of snatches of audio here at home.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Unids 6925 AM & 6930 AM 8/1/11
« on: August 01, 2011, 1614 UTC »
8/1/11, 0400z approx.

6925 AM: I'm betting this was Radio True North, per IRC, but I wasn't able to hear an ID myself.  Billy Idol and Black Sabbath songs.  Fair signal strength and fairly steady via Colorado global tuners remote, mostly buried in static crashes.  Just a carrier here at home.

6930 AM: Might have been Northern Relay Service but only able to copy word "radio" in what might have been ID.  Tried various global tuner remotes, just barely audible occasionally between long fade outs to inaudible via Colorado and Wisconsin remotes, no luck via Nova Scotia remote, just a carrier here at home.

Propagation = le pew.   :P

North American Shortwave Pirate / Lots of carriers, no audio
« on: July 28, 2011, 0556 UTC »
7/28/11, 0330-0530 UTC
Outdoors with Sony ICF-2010 and loop antenna.
Heard carriers on 6815, 6930, 6940, 6960 and 6977 but no intelligible audio.
6815: Strongest carrier but virtually no intelligible audio to accompany it.  Mostly buried under nearly continuous CW.
6930: As noted in another log, heard nearly continuous narrative in male voice from around 0345-0415z, but not quite clear enough to copy content or ID.
6940z: Weak, fadey carrier, presumably Laser Hot Hits from Europe.
6960z: Fair carrier, no audio.
6977.3 (approx): Presumably Radio Anarchy testing, per IRC.  Only able to copy sine wave test tones.

Heavy static crashes.  Even aviation weather on 6604 and 6754 were weaker than usual.  AFN fair on 5446.5, good on 7811 and 12133.5.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Unid 6815 AM
« on: July 28, 2011, 0319 UTC »
7/28/11, 6815 AM, 0001-0030z: Faint carrier, barely audible music and voice.  Only able to pick up audio via New England remote tuner, and that was mostly buried under CW.  Just a barely perceptible carrier and no audio via any other remote tuner in N. America.
