4955   PERU. R. Cultura Amauta - Huanta. Just caught the remnants of this broadcast as it faded out around 1125, possibly a religious talk and song (hymn?). Pleasing to hear this in mid summer with a somewhat lower noise level than usual tonight, Jan 5.

15550   MADAGASCAR. R. Dabanga - Talata Volonondry. S/on at 0430 after the R. Tamazuj broadcast concluded, news in Sudanese, heavy QRM co-channel CNR 1 which is a pity as Dabanga is often good listening, Jan 5.

15580   BOTSWANA. VOA - Moepeng Hill. English news to Af at the 0500 switchover from the Kuwait txer site to the Botswana site. Poor to fair signal but much better here than via Kuwait which was barely audible before 0500. Jan 5.

15775.2   TAIWAN. Sound of Hope (Xi Wang Zhi Sheng). Mandarin talk at 0550.  A clock "bong" at 0600, ID and change of program with introductory music and female announcer. A fair to poor signal, (no jamming) but still surprising how well this station can be heard sometimes with its alleged 0.1 kW into an ND antenna. Jan 5.

3250 kHz  D.P.R.KOREA. VoKorea - Pyongyang. Japanese service 1025 until 1027 when the usual 3-min break in transmission. Back on air 1030 with continuation of Japanese after the IS. Dec 28.

3320  kHz  D.P.R.KOREA. Pyongyang BS - Pyongyang. At 1035 with Korean lecturing, fair to poor signal, Dec 28.

Shortwave Broadcast / ABC Domestic SW Back On

Over the last week, 2325 kHz ABC Tennent Creek, NT and 2485 kHz ABC Katherine, NT have both been off air with different technical problems. New parts have arrived, been installed, and both transmitters were back on air last night when I checked at 1020 UTC. However, the private station 2368 R. Symban, Sydney NSW has not been heard since about July or August, and still remains off-air.....perhaps for good? Who knows!

Shortwave Broadcast / Thazin Radio, Myanmar

It was pleasing to catch this station a few days ago on 9590 kHz around 1030 UT. Don't often here it here! Signal strength was only fair but the clear channel helped make listening an easy task. The txer is at Pyin U Lwin, in the centre of the country. I made a short YouTube clip which you can find over at:

I noticed from the HFCC registrations that DW are planning some changes during December and January, as follows:

Effective from December 15:
12025 kHz via Talata relay 0400 to 0500 in English to EAf (ex 11810)
15405 kHz via Talata 0500 to 0600 in English to SAf (ex 15520)
15190 kHz via Djabayya relay 1600 to 1700 in Amharic to EAf (ex 15560)

Effective from January 15:
11800 kHz via Issoudun 0630 to 0700 in Hausa to WAf (ex 9800)

I've just posted some other news on my blog including the clandestine Radio Sana’a still continuing to be heard very well, an interview with the CEO of Trans World Radio, and lots of good loggings over the past week.

9524.98   INDONESIA. RRI - Cimanggis. Great to see this station return after an absence from this frequency. Noted on Dec 11 at 1015 with plenty of carrier but no detectable audio for what is usually the English service. Then at 1100, the audio came up for the Mandarin service, but was still low in comparison to the good carrier level. Some QRM from VOA's Mandarin service and the Chinese jammer on 9530.

11735   D.P.R.KOREA. VoKorea - Kujang. Outside broadcast at 0915 in Russian to EAs, suddenly off at 0927 without station ID, good signal on Dec 5.

11735   BRAZIL. R. Transmundial - Santa Maria-Camobi, RS. Heard after Korea s/off at 0927, ID at 0930, then religious commentary. ID again at 0940 with address, station jingle at 0942. Fair signal on Dec 5.

6170   D.P.R.KOREA. VoK - Kujang. S/on at 2030 with KCBS programming. Anthem, words of wisdom from the kid president, etc, etc. Was stronger earlier at 2000 when the German service was operating, but weakening rapidly by 2035, Nov 25.

5010.6   MADAGASCAR. R. Madagasikara - Antananarivo.  The usual wobbly signal at good strength but with frequency variation at 1902. Malagasy anncts and ID then into some type of current affairs program, Nov 25.
