Audio was pretty crushed, i.e., you had it turned up way too much and it was very clipped and distorted. I couldn't handle listening to it, sorry.

Please listen to your transmitter (preferably with headphones or a HiFi speaker) and back it off to a more tolerable level next time. Thanks and best regards.

Very light modulation. Turn up the audio, man!

(Maybe you read the above. Seems like you turned it up. Thanks. Plenty of room for "upside" but I can't diagnose the limitation over the internet.)

HF Beacons / Re: New whooper beacon on 4095.65
« on: August 23, 2022, 2237 UTC »
Yeah, the signal was fading up and down last night and maybe I copied the battery voltage incorrectly.

Here is a recording of much better reception on the KPH SE beam kiwi SDR at 2230 UTC 23 August 2022 in the afternoon sun.

https://voca.ro/1oQ6dhNbcpwM

In any case, it sounds like the battery voltage is up to 14.3 Volts right now with the sun at "full gas".

S5 peak on the KPH kiwi SDR at 1800 UTC on 23 March 2022.  Is there ever an ID for this beacon?

It looks like the battery voltage is dipping from the immediately preceding logs, taken at roughly the same time of the evening and an earlier sunset now.

08/23/2022, 0400 UTC, 4095.6 KHz carrier frequency, received on the KPH kiwi SDR, Point Reyes, CA, SINPO 25232.

BAT 12.1 (V)
OTMP 100 (F; still hot in the desert well after dark. Also perhaps the sensor is not in the open air.)

1440-Radio Silaturahim (harmonic)
ID in English at 0500 UTC then Indonesian "Your listening to Radio Silaturahim for united Islam". 720 kHz X 2. S7 signal.

Does this mean that you speak Bahasa Indonesia or was the part you transcribed in English?

22 Meter Band HiFER Beacons / Re: Midnight Hifers
« on: August 22, 2022, 1959 UTC »
Propagation modelling, arbitrarily choosing Washington, DC as the TX site, says that ~0100 to 0400 UTC has the best reliability to NorCal right now out of the whole 24 hour cycle. 0300 UTC shown below for reference (30-40% reliability). Forgetting about the exact numbers for a moment, you can see that the best conditions to the west are in our evenings.

S7 to S9 (SINPO 45444) on the Maui, Hawaii KiwiSDR (Beverage to the north) at 0500 UTC.
Very audible (but not observable on the waterfall) on the Weston-Super-Mare, England kiwi (160 meter dipole) at ~0445 UTC (sunrise).
Lovely S6-S7 (SINPO 45555) signal on the EA8FBK SDR (80 meter loop)  in the Canary Islands at 0603 UTC (approaching sunrise).
Weak but listenable (SINPO 24332) on the kiwi at Pardinho, near Sao Paulo, Brazil (G5RV) at 0612 UTC.

Still going at 0701 UTC.  "We could go all night." (That's not a song; just my sarcastic comment.)

Weak but listenable (SINPO 24222) on the ZL1ROT kiwi in Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand at 0710 UTC. Congratulations, you are Mix Radio Worldwide.

Still going at 0804 UTC. I'm out. Good night.

you made it across the pond, good job - sunset here at 2350 utc today.

For what it is worth, according to propagation software, currently the best conditions for reaching the North American east coast on this frequency from Portugal are approximately 2300 - 0100 UTC or approximately 1000 UTC (two choices).

Thanks for combining the two threads, Ray.

0238 - This has been going on for ~20 minutes but no one has reported it yet.

Spacey music.

0245 - Spacey flute music.
0300 - A haunting remake of ABBA's "SOS".
0303 - ID

Just happened to notice the carrier on my waterfall at the moment the TX went on.

0108 - spacy, electronic music. S7, SINPO 45444 on an SDR in Ohio.
0111 - "WTF Radio Worldwide, checking out the transmitter this evening. Blowing the dust off of it."
0128 - Stereolab

493
DJ Dickweed messing around with transmitter settings and checking connections at my tune in.
S4-S7 on an SDR in Ohio with minimal background noise/static crashes (unlike out west right now).

2324 - ID
2334 - Expressing (faux) surprise that I am actually not listening with a home-based receiver right now. Sorry to burst your (tiny) bubbles.  :P
0001 - Comments about PBR. [In my opinion, PBR is the only North American beer that I am aware of that tastes better warm, not cold. (British beers are different.)]
0016 - "...Pirate responsibly. Always use a low-pass filter."

Huh? / Re: Compromís asks to end FM radio to save energy?
« on: August 13, 2022, 1958 UTC »
I'm not sure that this is based upon a view of the whole picture. If they wish to save money energy, OK, turn off transmitters. (Whether the downside of reduced service outweigh the savings is up for debate.) But saving substantial amounts of energy by changing to DAB+ while maintaining an equal number of transmitters in operation is very, very questionable.

This perversion of 'save the planet' justifying ever encroaching authoritarianism needs to stop, and people need to put their foot down.

It's not even "authoritarianism" here; it's simply not a full view of the data.

Apparently the links for the gerber files and the BOM (Excel .CSV format) are dead. Here are new links:

gerbers: https://we.tl/t-mEexddP14C See below for updated links
BOM: https://we.tl/t-mJj5yAScly See below for updated links

The link for the article is still good: https://app.box.com/v/ty24asdfjAEF00

All the links are completely anonymous for both you and me. I have no idea who is downloading any of these nor do I even know how many times they have been downloaded.

If there is interest, I can do a another version with a synthesizer input (in addition to the crystal), a better drive circuit (for higher RF power output) and a single power supply input for the whole transmitter (for simpler installation). It won't be a LULU anymore but I don't think anybody really cares about that detail. (I certainly don't.)
