Our increasingly connected world needs better protection against RF noise pollution:

I thought it was just my receiver!   ;)

General Radio Discussion / Re: Future of pirate radio
« on: August 11, 2015, 2135 UTC »

My biggest reason for pirating on shortwave is for the audience being played to.  It's always dangerous to generalize, however, the typical SWL has a MUCH greater attention span than the typical INET user who uses their mouse much like a couch potato uses his/her TV remote.  SWLs search the bands and get a thrill receiving an interesting signal.  They will hang with you.  They will listen.  Often, they will attempt to make contact with you.  And often I make another friend.

And that's why we listen (unless the propigation is for ~~~~, like it's been for me this Summer).  :(

Always interesting to see others who stumble upon "those strange broadcasts"…..

Most people under age 20 have no (or little) idea what a radio is. They get all their entertainment via smartphone. Which makes it ironic that Sprint is reportedly buying many Radio Shacks.

BINGO.  Devolution.

Cool to see that others are interested - enjoy.  Decent history lesson.

HF Mystery Signals / Re: Mystery signal question
« on: November 26, 2014, 1542 UTC »
40 minutes after my post last night, with 4 pictures from 2 directions, 10 meters to the east closed down, and Asian stations started rolling in on 10 meters.  Then the sweepers from the north west on 10 really started coming in.

1.6 MHz wide span centered on 29240 kHz, antenna pointed 320 degrees true.  This is towards China for me, although naturally there are other nations along the same bearing.

If I'd have seen that before seeing it here, I'd probably have fallen out of my chair.  Never seen anything like it on my SDR.   :o

Huh? / Re: I made a holy discovery

Angley acknowledged that volunteer labor is used at Grace Cathedral’s buffet restaurant, despite a warning that the use of volunteer labor at a for-profit company is a violation of federal labor laws.

LOL!  You just can't make that stuff up.  I remember this guy from high school.  Friends used to get together and party while watching this kook "HEAL" people and advertising his trips to the "Holy Land" to be booked through his travel group.  "OUT YOU NICOTINE DEVILS"..... and he'd smack 'em in the head.

Very interesting!  Back in the old days, I used to watch her "husband" Gene Scott on television.  If anyone remembers it then you'll remember how screwy his broadcasts were.  Atlantis, The Pyramids mixed with Gene's take on religion.  Gene Scott was a trip.  Smoking cigars, cursing...  And I read somewhere that Melissa Scott is now the pastor of the "Church".  Had no clue she was an "adult actress" but laughingly, I can see how it all fits together.

01:20 UTC  barely riding over the noise in Tejas - music but unintelligible.  Put a spell on you?  Halifax & OKMike nailed it.
01:28 UTC  signal improving like Glen said, but the noise (S-9+) is a killer.
01:35 UTC  OM ID  Wolverine Radio - signal improving
01:41 UTC  OM ID and probably signing off - digital noise.

Thanks for the show!

I viewed this movie on Netflix® and found it to be kind of boring.  Can't remember if I finished watching it!

Havana Moon.  Indeed.  I don't believe that much depth of study went into the movie.

Other / Re: 3840 kHz-ish LSB Ham weirdness 0430 UTC ... normal?

A recent grease fire is steadily growing on 7.210 LSB starting around 00:00 UTC.

Cubans located (primarily) in Florida broadcast the "Revolution", play music and all sorts of whatnot.
