General Radio Discussion / Morse Code Trainer

I have finally decided that I need to learn Morse code.

Any suggestions on a trainer/tutorial? Mac, Windows or online.

Thanks,

Kent

Spy Numbers / HM01 with "hum" 12180 KHz 26Dec2015 1029-1032 UTC

Using my new Airspy/Spyverter combo with SDRSharp I'm picking up a "hum". If anyone can guide me on how to filter this out it would be greatly appreciated.

Numbers read by YL in Spanish. Barely audible from my location. Completely lost the signal around 0721 UTC. No recording.
Edit to add: Software: SDR Console version 2.3 build 2274

Software / SDR#, SDR Console (V2) and SdrDx
« on: December 15, 2015, 2023 UTC »
I'm currently playing with the above three programs and I have noticed some interesting differences.

My receiver - listed below in my sig - is network connected to a Mid 2011 27 inch iMac with an Intel i5 CPU @ 270GHz with 24GB RAM.
I'm running windows 8.1 via Bootcamp.

SDR# and SDR Console seem to get signals that SdrDx doesn't. For example the other day I posted regarding a signal I received, but couldn't identify, that turned out to be CHU Canada.  I was unable to get this signal using SdrDx.

For anyone who is using SdrDx would you provide any suggestions on what settings I may want to adjust to try and get these "weaker" signals?

Thanks,

Kent

Thanks Oliver. Is there no voice for this or did I just miss it?

A series of "beeps" on 3331 KHz later followed by a digital(?) signal on 3332 KHz.
Video here: https://youtu.be/5YI7Ln3SvPM

At approx 00:48 into the video the beeping stops and the digital begins. The beeping begins again at 00:57. This cycle repeats.

Any idea what this would be?

Software / SdrDx Newbie Looking for Mentor
« on: December 04, 2015, 2316 UTC »
Anyone here using SdrDx that would be willing to mentor a relative newbie to the software? I don't really want to bother the developer with operational related questions.

This could be done via PM or email.

TIA,

Kent

Thanks Chris.

Purchased the software. Now I just need to find a station to decode.

Chris,

Is MultiMode standalone software or does it require SDR software also?  I have an Afedri SDR-Net.

Yesterday on c-span.org I was listening to a discussion on "Spectrum Allocation & National Security". Early on the speaker, General Robert E. Wheeler mentioned "Link-16" (at 4:14 in the video. Has anyone captured a Link-16 transmission? I've done a search and couldn't find anything.  Is it similar to Link-11?

If anyone is is interested, here is the link to the video. http://www.c-span.org/video/?317829-1/impact-spectrum-allocation-national-security. It runs 1 hour 38 minutes.

Vince, in the morning your time try 8300 kHz for V13.

Token, what do you define as morning re. the above?  I'd like to see if I could hear V13 here in West Texas.

Equipment / Re: Calibrating S-Meter
« on: January 28, 2014, 1457 UTC »
Thanks Chris. I know Ben says that the SdrDx S-meter is calibrated for an RFSpace radio. Since I have an Afedri, I wasn't sure if I should re-calibrate it.  I guess I just call it good.

Equipment / Calibrating S-Meter

I would like to check/calibrate the S-meter on my copy of SdrDx SDR software. I don't have a signal generator. Are there inexpensive software signal generators (for OS X) or something else I could use?  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
