Yeah... I want to know about that myself. I offered to load all five shows on my Archive .ORG page a few months ago, when I asked in an e-mail, but no response to that, yet. If, he does say, "Yes.", to that, then I plan to do so.
I enjoyed the show that he interviewed you on - i learned a lot!
Thanks for that.

Hello all and I apologize for being out of touch on this one but have there been any more Hobby Broadcasting Radios shows done by Andrew Yoder beyond show #5 (yikes I know that was back in the spring of 2023 I think)?
If so, can anyone point me in the direction of how I could download them?
Thanks very much

For Sale / Wanted / Barter / Parting ways
« on: April 10, 2025, 1524 UTC »
Hello all,
I am parting ways with the following 2 radios.  I have many accessories (Timewave DSPs, external speakers, etc.) also, so let me know if you are interested in any of those kinds of things and I will email you a list.
All radios, etc. are in good working order - I simply don't find the time anymore to spin dials as the clock ticks.  I will entertain ANY REASONABLE offer and will ship UPS (which would be added to the price).
Please don't reply here on HFU but rather, email me at fpeconsultant AT aol DOT com and put the name of your favorite pirate station in the subject line.
Thanks,
FPE

Watkins-Johnson HF-1000A w/ Suboctave Preselector - the "8" plastic button fell off during a move but I have the button and the switch works fine and the button will rest on the switch but won't "engage in place".

Ten - Tec RX340 - the LED backlight on the S-meter is burnt out.

Slightly off topic:
How about Sony mini discs?  I have a few player/recorders and a bunch of old MW, SW broadcast and pirate recordings and a bunch of blank discs too.  They did a great job of recording exactly what I heard with no degradation 15 plus years later.  Cutting edge at the time.  I don’t recall if the files are .wav or what - I don’t think they’re mp3s.  I liked them because in “long recording” mode I could record on a frequency (typically MW after this old man’s bedtime) for I think 6 hours then check it the next day to see if I “caught” anything.
I still use them ever so often and I don’t use an sdr - get ready for it but I still turn knobs on the R8, Watkins Johnson, TT 340 and/or JRC 545.  And I use a Universal M-8000 for WeFax, sitor, etc.  Old I know.  And feeling it lately- hah!

Very nice.
Congrats to both of you.

I did a paper on the Fitz back in 1980 - fascinating saga.  I hope EF radio went QRT  for the last time at 7pm CST on November 10th.  That would have been the ultimate cosmic irony.

Yes.  I always found the recordings of the transmissions between the Anderson and the Coast Guard haunting.
“The last we heard from the Fitz he said he was holding his own…”

S-Meter is nice and huge with markings that give the standard S-units for most nonprofessional types along with dbm. It has been reported that the lamp in this meter can and does burn out fairly easy and is not a easy chore to replace (direct wired inside the meter). Note: Later production samples now use LED meter lighting (untested).

RadioReference has a forum for the Chicago metro area. Might be a good place to inquire about a repair tech recommendation.

Thank you!

A passing contemplation, but being near Chi-town, there's got to be a High School vocational electronics class, or even electronics college curriculum out near you. With the stupid high price of shipping such a receiver, like that Ten Tec, a suggestion would be to go to a principal, or a school Dean, and ask if you could present what you want done by students, and have them get a grade upon doing that project. That's what was done in New York State's BOCES, and later SUNY College, where folks could submit items for repair, students would get graded on the work, and the submitting person would only pay for parts, and not the labor. That's, what I did in High School, then College. And, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than shipping that Ten Tec. Good luck to you.

Thanks - this is a good idea!  Do you think that the parts needed would be readily available?  I emailed dishtronix (who apparently purchased Ten Tec) about buying the parts and so far no reply.  But maybe all that is needed is a common part?  I am not an electronics guy at all!
What do you think?

The RF Workbench / Help with a Ten Tec RX340

Hello all,
I have an (old) RX-340 and recently the light (bulb?) that illuminates the S meter has burnt out/died.
Is there anyone interested in fixing this for me if I were to UPS or Fed Ex it to them - of course I anticipate paying for this to be done.  I am near Chicago so if you are too I would be willing to drop it off and pick it up.
Thanks and if you’d rather contact me offline, my email is in my profile.
Thanks for reading my post.
