Yes the setup works very well for Wefax.  And the R8 never lets me down.  One thing I can't do though is save the images as JPEG, etc.  at least not that I know of.
Oh well, you can't have everything!

I have no experience with SDRs (they call me a "knob turner" - oh well), but I must agree about the R8.  I bought mine around 1998 and it WAY outperforms my Ten-Tec RX340, Watkins Johnson HF-1000, and the JRCNRD545.  And that's on SW, MW, LW, WeFax, etc.  My R8 is always my go-to radio.  I had to send it to a guy a few years ago to get something fixed (a capacitor I think) and he re-calibrated it and it is like new.  Too bad they don't make them anymore.  Its all SDRs nowadays - but then again, I griped when cassettes took out 8-Tracks.
Have fun,

WEFAX and SSTV / Re: First WEFAX image

I have had no time to decode WEFAX lately. Hopefully, over the weekend I can. Hope others have been doing well with it since my original post.

I will get back at it around late October - conditions improve & Australia & New Zealand become easy catches here local mornings and the northernmost Canadians are decent late afternoons.
Have fun

I use a DSP device (JPS NIR-12) and it absolutely helps.  Keep in mind I'm not using an app for WEFAX but rather an old school Universal M-8000 and I receive on a 30 year old Drake R8. The DSP I use is made by RF Systems I think.....

Not sure of your location but I'm near Chicago and easily copy New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Kodiak, Boston, CA, LA, Chile, and in the winter months the Canadian far north TXs come in well.
Have fun.

Congrats.
Here's a link to a PDF - somewhat out dated but still useful:
https://www.weather.gov/media/marine/rfax.pdf

The carrier frequency is always 1.9kHz below the assigned frequency.
And if you mean NMF when you say "boston station", I think you were tuned to 12748kHz (not 14748) - see page 34 on the linked PDF.
Have fun,
