General Radio Discussion / Radio Gramox
« on: August 27, 2014, 0148 UTC »
Received the following email from a MW DX group, I haven't been able to pick up the broadcast and have not seen any other loggings of the station.

Radio Gramox is a private FM-station in Tampere, Finland, on 106,8 MHz.
Recently they have got legal licence for AM-broadcasts on 3960, 7230 and 25760 kHz. Power is announced to be 50 Watts.
Just now I am listening to them on 3960 kHz. Stn plays old jazz & entertainment music from 1940's to 1950's.
Please, note that this is not a pirate stn. They have also licence to use 729 kHz which is the Tampere frequency in Geneva MW-plan. So far no activity noted on 729. Licece is valid until the end of October 2014.

Receiving a FAX on 7710 which another user identified as Iqaluit Canada Wefax. My image is to small and blurry to make out any id but it does appear that there is a maple leaf flag in the margins of the transmitted weather map.

Using a NRD-525 and PAR EF-SWL antenna, decoding with a Universal M-8000.

Earlier today I was watching an episode of America Declassified and they had a story about the United States National Radio Quiet Zone, Greenbank WV. During the episode they had a short clip of the RFI team tracking down the soundman who was broadcasting with a wireless microphone. In the SUV, packed with receivers, I did happen to notice an ICOM IC-R9000 and an ICOM IC-R8500 being used. Very interesting show and one SUV I would love to have.

Nice strong signal and station ids at 0238 and 0245z. S9 + probably the best signal that I have heard them.

Going through some old boxes and found this QSL. This was printed on letter size glossy photo paper for a broadcast in 2000. The return address was from Canada.
