Equipment / Finally got it
« on: March 18, 2015, 0028 UTC »
I'm guessing that it has been about 38 years since I received the Gilfer Shortwave catalogue and saw the radio. That NRD-505 with the beautiful red digital readout, I've never forgotten it. Today the matching NVA-505 speaker just came.

I just wanted to share and no my wife doesn't need to know how much I've spent on acquiring these two pieces of equipment.

General Radio Discussion / Anybody else have this problem?
« on: March 01, 2015, 1643 UTC »
Does somebody in your house just start the microwave without asking if that is going to be a problem? I just posted a comment about Cupid Radio today and as soon as I hit enter my wife must have hit the start button. If we were buried under fifty feet of dirt in rural Kansas there would be a nuclear missile on its way to Moscow right now. Another question what can you cook in a microwave for twenty-five minutes anyway?

Not sure of the music genre but sounds kinda rapish, but pretty sure that I heard references to QSLs mentioned. Thought that I heard "Ham Radio" possible ID repeated several times at 0224z. Fighting the noise and hard to make out.

Sorry the station is broadcasting in AM.

At 0231 several repeated "Ham Radio" ids and off.

« on: January 19, 2015, 2329 UTC »
Hearing peskies on the frequency but in the background heard what sounded like Taps being played. At 2328 another song was played with a trumpet as well. Others on piurate chat tell me that it was not taps but another military "call".

Seems off at 2332z.

Utility / NMO 22376 SITOR-B 2120z 12/27/2014
« on: December 27, 2014, 2126 UTC »
Decoding SITOR-B transmissions from NMO Coast Guard Honolulu with various warnings to sailors such as 2 20 meter tress floating in the Coral Sea and the ship Sea Shell missing with it's last known position as 03.43.94N 105.36.41E. And the M/V Vespucci towing 10 8100 Meter long cables, some type of seismic survey.

Pretty interesting radio reading.

Various Christmas songs being played. Signal is weaker than normal for Captain Morgan. S-3
At 0245 hit hard by the static and mostly unreadable. And it sounded so good.
