Yes you read the frequency right, a pirate on 27605 KHz USB. Tuning around the amazing 11m conditions today, stumbled upon American accented DJ playing a variety of music. Unlike the usual 11m channel jammers, this is a quiet freeband frequency with no other activity and seems like a typical SW pirate show. VERY nice S9 signal in the Boston burbs and good audio.

2111 - OM announcer into King Tubby
2113 - This Is My Last Affair, The Meters
2116 - OM announcer again with no apparent ID talking about music, and then into Afro-Blue by Abbey Lincoln
2119 - Afro Blue, John Coltrane
2130 - ID again, running through the songs

It seems that the operator of the transmitter is playing some kind of online stream or archived radio show, and he's muting or potting down the original IDs when they are announced.

Big 6925 USB signal up here in the Boston burbs.

- 1302 "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite", REM.
- 1306 Some kind of male voice ID but too low and/or over-reverb'd to copy?
- 1306 "Star 69", REM.
- 1309 "All The Way To Reno", REM.
- 1314 "Lightnin' Hopkins", by you guessed it REM.
- 1317 "Stay tuned to WREM" ID
- 1317 "Strange", REM.
- 1319 "Near Wild Heaven", REM.
- 1347 off abruptly

General Radio Discussion / A word about fake HFU accounts.
« on: October 13, 2021, 1826 UTC »
1. All accounts are manually approved so you are just wasting your time trying to create one.

2. It is pretty trivial to make assumptions about who does this sort of thing.

3. Individuals who continue to create fake HFU accounts with Tor, open proxies or other VPNs, which are also easily identifiable, will never be permitted onto Discord.

Иди к черту, малыш.

HM01 is up on 11530 kHz AM at 1740 UTC 8/23/21 with data bursts and another station on the same frequency, presumably TRT Radio Recep Erdogan.

Noted while monitoring 11175 USB for HFCGS traffic. HM01 11435 kHz AM 1627 UTC 8/23/21. Modulation seems low.

Utility / US Coast Guard 8985 kHz *AM MODE* 1455 UTC 09 AUGUST 2021
« on: August 09, 2021, 1501 UTC »
Happened upon the tail end of a conversation between a (presumed) USCG air asset and CAMSLANT on 8985 KHz. The really interesting thing about this was the air asset was using AM mode while CAMSLANT was using USB. I'll try to grab a recording if it rolls around again.

Hey guys. As you know, our AWESOME and action-packed chat is now on Discord. In coming days I will post information that may be helpful to you. But generally getting on Discord is really easy!

You MUST join with a Discord account that has a verified email address and you will be required to post a message in the welcome channel explaining your interest in radio. A moderator will subsequently approve access to the rest of the server.

You can use Discord in a browser, or download the desktop app. There are also mobile apps for iPhone and Android, and they were awesome. I prefer the desktop app on my PC because I think it offers a slightly richer experience. But the browser site is almost exactly the same. I also use the iPhone app, since that's the phone I have. The official Discord download site is here:

The RF Workbench / Chinese electronics products tested
« on: April 12, 2021, 1244 UTC »
This is a really interesting site authored by a Dutch electronics engineer. In it he extensively tests, you guessed it: Chinese electronics products. I posted this here in the RF workbench forum because a lot of his reviews are focused on inexpensive equipment you may find on an RF workbench: scopes, function generators, multimeters, power supplies and so on, as well as parts like caps and resistors.

The reviews are extremely detailed and and most conclude with a go/no-go opinion. Check out the site here:

Foxy AM signed on at approx 1754 UTC with a super huge signal in the Boston burbs. Announcer is live and said "standby for CW" then into CW.

I have a weak-ish, S2 maybe, AM signal on 6970 AM for the last 20 minutes or so. Can't listen with wide bandwidth due to data just above it. Playing cinematic/operatic style music, for lack of a better word. Evidently no ID or announcer activity.

General Radio Discussion / RIP Universal Radio

Universal Radio is closing shop. This one hurts. The Ostermans were really dedicated to SWL.

Shortwave Pirate / Foxy AM 6925
« on: October 05, 2020, 2253 UTC »
Foxy AM was on 6925 AM up until 2250 UTC with a good signal, played some bluesy rock for a bit, then the announcer complained peskies were on his freq and then he suddenly dropped.
