Clandestine Stations / 17540 Radio Impala 1730 UTC, 2/20 & 3/8/14
« on: February 20, 2014, 1824 UTC »
I heard an ID in English around 1730 and another one later. The announcer had an accent. It had 2 syllables and sounded like it started with a vowel. Mostly it was hard to discern because of the accent. But the frequency and time fit for Radio Mara.  Really relaxing music with singing and guitar. Singing sounded African.

So as I understand, this comes from a relay in Madagascar?  Looking at my globe, that is on the opposite side of the world from California!

EDIT:
I listened to the links that FPE Consultant gave and it is Radio Impala and not Radio Mara.  I changed the subject...to reflect.

New antenna was better. Hard to tell by how much, music was tinny.

I heard Free Radio Echo One ID with a man's Brittish accent.  Then an older song.

Pretty gude reception. I couldn't enjoy it, I had to leave. Thank you, I hope to hear you again.

Did this come all the way from Brittania?

There is an Asian language station with an annoying siren trying to jam it. Pretty cool siren, almost like a fast ambulance's siren. Or a car alarm.

Asian station

The siren comes and goes with propagation. Stringed Oriental music every once and a while. Jammer doing an effective job. I bet I could understand snippets of the broadcast if I knew the language.

Siren is about the same sinpo as Asian station.

Nothing at this time on either of the 2.

I'm pretty sure for the first post I searched around for the best signal to be as accurate as I could.  I wish I read your reply earlier.

Thar be a beacon at 6980 USB.
About a 0.5 sec long beep every 4 to 5 seconds. Sounds kind of lonely.

Thanks for your response, I understand now why modern, low power players are forgiving.  I have enough info to solder in some wires. I checked out your link and I like the player a lot.

I'll have to get me one of those snap-on ferrites.

I'm being particular because I want the best sound quality I can have.  So I'm taking my time before soldering stuff into place.

That Link 11 sounded like the weird ass bursts alright.  But what about the dash?  The dash was there before Link 11 and is still there now.

Now there's still the dash, but some weird ass bursts. Short short short...with a long one at the end. Its on and off.  It sounds like it might contain digital computer data, I'm not familliar with the different types.

off at 0134ish

Does anybody remember the power outage for the 2013 superbowl?  I thought it was done on purpose to give one side an advantage.
