Things in Canada must be bad. That's Red Green working the nets.

I know of a town in Florida that would be perfect for introducing coconut crabs to the Sunshine State, but it's name escapes me.

Oh golly, what is the name of that place?

Al and I provide a service to the pirate radio world with our witty repartee' and rational discourse. A pair of shining beacons to the unenlightened masses.

I still have a QSL from them from years ago. The gelt was gone in 10 minutes. Go figure?

I wish I had known, Al. My over/under Potato-Avocado gun can easily be adapted for mangos, navel oranges and tangerines. It's good for pythons and penguins, but it just ticks alligators off.

I'm working on a magnum version that fires coconuts, but I haven't started beta testing with those yet. The tests with acorn squash on Ted Turner's ranch stopped stampeding bison in their tracks at ranges from seven feet to over a half mile.

Equipment / Re: 11 Meter SW BX Band....
« on: December 15, 2014, 1925 UTC »
Yup. I heard a couple of hams on ten meters ragchewing about no one using ten meters anymore awhile back. They blamed it on hams depending on propagation predictions from various websites/software and not actually taking the time to listen up there.

My take is when the FCC lifted the restrictions on new hams operating only on 10 meters and above with restricted power, the newbies headed down to what they saw as the "big boy bands", leaving 10 meters deserted.

I regularly see 10 meter rigs at hamfests dirt cheap and gathering dust.

You said it, Witchdoctor. I've built so many types of antennas over the years it's a wonder the coax and wire haven't wrapped around me like a python ad squeezed the life out of me. It's a nasty habit.  ;)

TV line is an often overlooked material for FM antennas. Folded dipoles, J-Poles if you need a little gain, etc....

Give the ham sites a look and check out the DIY antenna designs for 6 and 2 meters. They're easily adaptable to the FM bands. Even a simple ground plane design can give excellent results. At FM frequencies you can build one out of scraps of wire and the female connector that matches up with the male connector on your coax. It takes a couple of hours,at most,to throw together.

How's your Dad's throwing arm? Can he still bean you with an avocado from 70 yards away, or does he have to wait until you pull into the driveway?

I'll send him plans for an over-under Avocado/Potato Cannon if it's the latter.

Are you sure your old buddy Coz wouldn't do something, say send studio copies to certain ops he's friendly with, that aren't so fond of you?

Naaah...... not Coz.

Sounds good to me. Glad to see you're still around.

It reminds me of those old, "Turn Your House Into A Giant TV Antenna" things from the pre-cable days. Hell, it probably is one of the things with new packaging and a new pitch.

Have you been able to keep your S.O. from buying a box, Corq?

Hmmm.... they've changed their policy of having to make a commitment to purchase an hour for x number of weeks to get a good deal.

It could be worth considering at the new terms. That's a good frequency for winter.

Glad to hear about the Questmitter schematic being online. I've got a paper copy of it upstairs in the vast Pigmeat archives, but it's in one of several mystery boxes containing radio related junk.

BTW, are you the same QRP guy I used to exchange emails with years ago?

I had a real "WTF!" moment when I heard Brownyard the Elder chanting while tuning down from 80 meters to 90. Then I recognized the bit. They were off air a couple of minutes after I caught it.

Sounds like it was a good show from the above reports.

Signal was a S-6 or so by ear. It's tough to call as I heard it so briefly.

Nice to hear that the boys are back on the air.
