General Radio Discussion / Brian Alexander
« on: February 25, 2013, 0101 UTC »
I just heard that Brian Alexander passed away in December. Anyone who listens to Glenn Hausers world of radio will recognize the name. Brian was often cited by Glenn to the point that I felt I knew the guy. I honestly don't know anything about him but have heard & read his logs for so long it's kinda like losing a friend.

his obit is here

Heard in progress over WBCQ. At times  she was hammering WBCQ & a minute later they would be reversed & WBCQ was covering the Cuban signal. Pedro's usual well thought out frequency planning is evident in this choice.
off at 7:54 UTC

8:00 UTC HM01 is now on 9065

9:00 UTC HM01 is now on 9240

10:00UTC HM01 is now on 5855

I tuned in just in time to hear one tune before he closed down at 4:02. good signal tonight, he was being bothered by occasional ute qrm though.

I found this via a tip on the Twente websdr. She was also on 11635 at 21:00. Both were at the usual "Frying chickens in the barnyard" signal strength

HM01 was preceeded by a few seconds of Radio Havana Audio ( just in case anyone was still wondering who is behind these broadcasts). I now wonder if my log of a few days ago was incorrect as on my PL380 I can hear HM01 splattering as high as 11640.

heard in progress w/usual strong signal strength S9+20. Message ended at 5:34, carrier on until 5:43z

back at 5:44z then parallel on 6165 with S9+60 (!) strength. 5855 off at 5:47. 6165 still on. I think 6165 should be RHC English at this time.

5855 back on at 5:54z but not parallel with 6165.
5855 gone at 6:01z
6165 numbers over at 6:10 carrier stays on , numbers back at 6:17
still going at 6:45z
off at 7:02z carrier off at 7:03z

I should think this transmission was heard by alot of people since it took the place of Havanas English broadcast.

Also heard in progress on 9065 khz at 8:17z

Excellent reception this AM from Pyongyang English service in absence of usual HUGE signal from Maine WBCQ on 9330.  S8-S9 here. WBCQ gone from 9330...WHY? I'd rather hear North Korea than gospel "huxters" as Glenn Hauser calls them. Pyongyang does wear thin after a while though. parallel 7570 and 11710 not heard at all(weak hets on frequencies).
