Wed Sept 21.. Japan, Japan and oh my, more Japan!!

Not usually what i go for, but I could tell stuff was way better then normal so I started tuning around

One of the Japanese 1404's, running one of those all night laugh track shows as i call it. Likely JQOL.

NHK repeaters on 1386, 1521,  1593 and 1602.. and very very well at that.

1197 JOWL, confirmed thanks to matching audio to 1287 and getting a top of hour time tone and ID.

1368 JOTS thanks to matching audio to 1287 JOHR, and this being the only possible 1368.

Alot of what was heard today was upper band and pretty low power!

Hi Paul - I have also been enjoying their programming recently on // 6180 kHz.

It's still too light out for me to really hear 6180 with any usable usability.... lol.....   ive heard it.. but not well.

KILLER signal from Radio Nacional de Amazonias with some crooner/standards music in english but with Portuguese speaking announcers. S9+55 in peaks with 100kw from near Brasilia, Brazil.  Their intended target? The remote northern parts of the country.  I am about 7000 miles PAST their target area! Heard at 0120UTC Mon Sept 19th (Sun at 520pm local AK Time). Far far far from a new catch and when CX is good, R. Nac'l de amazonias is often one of the best signals on the band for me.

It’s been pretty dismal till today here in Alaska.

I’ve had my first logging this season if A3Z 1017 in Tonga.

Of note, I’ve also had 2NC 1233 Newcastle, NSW at just the right time with the ABC News top of hour fanfare.

I’ve had short but decently ok snippets of 4BH 1116, Today FM 1107KHz and 4TAB 1008Khz

And there’s Today FM on 1107kHz again with a live service for Queen Elizabeth from the UK at 1432UTC

I wouldn't call this mediocre, but close.. I've had all of these signals before and much stronger for longer periods of time than I had them today

I wish but I used SSB to confirm the carrier frequency of 550 kHz.

The only logical answer is KARI with some paid programming and when KARI come on, they were switching from day to night power/pattern

Excellent reception, English Service via sdr in Edinburgh.

1350 Whip around British football prior to Newcastle/Nottingham Forest EPL match.  OM discussion Celtic match.  Then talking about shocker result earlier today, Fulham 2 Liverpool 2 (Rumor has it Klopp wants 11 subs and no away matches ;D).
1358 OM discussing The Forest's return to top flight English football for the first time in 20 plus seasons, longest gap ever in between EPL appearances.
1401 OM talking about upcoming Everton/Chelsea match, new tea time coverage weekly, players take knee, kick off.
1403 "Nil-nil here, Newcastle on front foot pressing"
1405 "We now welcome listerners on the BBC World Service, you haven't missed anything."  (I'm guessing WS had a 5 minute newbreak before joining match)
1409 "Forest is going to have to dig in during these early stages."  Another OM calling in "Bournemouth 1, Aston Villa 1'
Time for some quick errands

I've had this one here once .. and it even briefly had an echo, which means i had two transmitters at once

Thanks Paul. Keep us updated.

I had a friend who was stuck at Dutch Harbor during a stint in the Air Force. He had long beverage and claimed to have picked up all sorts of trans-Pacific dx. I could understand his East Asian catches, he was nearly there, but when it came to the South Pacific, I thought he was full of it. If I ever run across the guy, I'll have to apologize to him.

I think some of the deep south pacific stuff like my 8000 mile log of 7ZR 936khz, 10kw from Hobart Tasmania, Aus might be over the pole stuff.

I do SW in the spring and summer, but move to AM when it begins to stay dark late enough in the morning...... and today (Fri Aug 5th) I had to get up at an ass o clock time thats way earlier then Id like, but I was chompin at the bit to get some AM DX in.

My first log of the 2022-2023 AM DX Season is...............

the 5kw non directional 1107khz Tauranga relay of "Today FM" New Zealand. About 7000 miles give or take a few dozen miles. Not very strong, but between 1115 and 1200UTC, I had several understandable fade ups including a long snippet of "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins leading into news at 1200UTC.

1107kHz Tauranga, NZ isn't new or even uncommon for me. In early fall (which is what were really in, based on temps) through late fall and again in late winter, this signal whose tower is right near the water is a regular catch and sometimes, very good too.

I will use this thread to update everyone with my logs/catches and audio that I record of what I hear.

I use a CC Crane Skywave (non SSB model) and this antenna:

.... remains unidentified - as a clandestine broadcaster.
Thanks for your help.

Fabrys

Check and see if your audio matches VOA Hausa? I cant remember, but i found them on 15185 and it took two airings for me to figure out it and match what i had to a podcast.

15185 isnt listed anywhere on eibi or even VOA's own site.

I did have a mystery arabic on 15180 that turned otu to not be arabic but no one was able to ID it, mroe details here:

For the last several days, I’ll catch them running Their regular programming in my early morning hours here in Alaska (1500UTC is usually when I can hear enough of audio to determine what it is)

But for the the last several days, at 1700, I’ll hear a 5 minute english promo and a 5 minute Arabic language promo for satellite services provider NileSat run in a repeating loop for at least 2 hours
