10/11 meters / Re: 11M Open to Europe this morning
« on: October 06, 2021, 1511 UTC »
11 meters is going nuts.

SSB signals every 5 kHz from 27300 to 27700 or so.  Heard some UK stations talking on 26420 LSB and lots and lots of paging signals...including the 26.150 MHz, 26.250 MHz, 26.745 MHz frequencies and several others.  26.950 MHz also had data bursts.

All the R/C frequencies 26.995 MHz, 27.045 MHz, 27.095 MHz, 27.145 MHz and 27.195 MHz have voice signals on them, all of them appear to be Latin American taxi cab dispatchers.

25695 kHz AM 25.695 MHz AM - coming in nicely on multiple receivers on the US East Coast.  OMs and YL heard, likely the YL is the dispatcher and the OMs are the drivers.

There are other active frequencies in the 25 MHz and 26 MHz low channels this afternoon but this one is (at least at the moment) the strongest in the 25 MHz band.  I've logged it several times in the past, likely with the same user.

As to be expected, 26.585 MHz AM and the nearby frequencies are also busy with Mexican stations (on 26585 anyway).

26.695 MHz is a well-known UK paging frequency - technically an offset from the 26.700 MHz European standardized paging frequency.

Depending on where you look, 26.2 MHz to 26.965 MHz is a standardized paging band, other sources say 26.235 MHz to 26.935 MHz and still others say 26.500 MHz to 26.960 MHz...

26.795 MHz also had what sounded like POCSAG on it.  26.695 was certainly POCSAG (and was pretty strong).

The wider-than-normal 10 kHz wide FSK signal actually might have been 2-carrier MFSK, as the carriers were closer to 26995 and 27005, mark or space moved them up or down roughly 1.5 kHz or 2 kHz, but the whole signal was 10 kHz or 12 kHz wide...compared to the usual 6-8 kHz wide data signals heard on the 25-28 MHz band.

The dits on 27.120 MHz could have been a legit ISM signal or some sort of non-communications signal.  Or, it could be some sort of beacon.  27125 had voice activity on it that would, at times, drown out the 27120 signal.

In regards to the 27.120 MHz signal, there is this:

Seems this morning (afternoon in Europe and Russia) the band was also open.  Via one of the Russia-based KiwSDRs, Inoted numerous signals on the UK FM CB frequencies, including UK FM CB channel 19 27781.25 FM and several others.  FM signals on frequencies like 27.600 MHz and 27.605 MHz were also noted - Russian taxicab dispatchers mixing in with UK FM CB signals on 27.60125 MHz..

Some SSB activity around 27555 and a mixture of AM, FM and SSB signals within the 26960-27410 band...including the strong data link systems on 26945 and 26960.  I did some research and Google translate and found out that 26.945 MHz, 26.950 MHz, 26.955 MHz, 26.960 MHz and several other frequencies are, in Russia, heavily used for campus-wide alarm system data links and other systems that we use 27.255 MHz (and 26.995/27.045/27.095/27.145/27.195) for.

Maximum power output on 26.945 and 26.960 is 2 watts (according to my research anyway).

In addition to those signals, POCSAG paging signals were heard on several frequencies in the 26 MHz region, considering the fact that the UK FM CB frequencies were booming in, I imagine at least some of the 26 MHz POCSAG signals were also from the UK or Western Europe.

Also, an odd data signal centered around 27.003 MHz was coming in, mixing with CB signals on 27000 and 27005.  I know stations in Finland have monitored POCSAG paging signals on 27007 or close to it - maybe 27.0075 MHz or 27006.5...this could be another one of those on-campus paging / telemetry systems using an offset frequency.

Maybe today will be another big band opening for us as well.
