Got our first accumulating snowfall of the season Saturday/Sunday as well... had to shovel a couple inches of the heavy white stuff off of the driveway.

CY,
Thanks for the heads up on this one.
Had tried for them earlier in the month after a post by East Troy Don but no luck.
Finally heard them last evening just before midnight with a booming signal... Southern Gospel format.
There is a local on the same freq but it was completely covered.
Only my second Arkansas ever in the logbook.

Fast forward to the year 2525...   the expedition from Alpha Centauri arrives to find no human life here.  However, they are able to home in on a continuously repeating transmission known as amplitude modulation that translates into something about obtaining an 18th booster.

NQC,

Couldn't find any NDBs located at Boston Logan but you may want to try for 389 PVC at Provincetown or 397 OW at Norwood.

Hey Pinto,

I thought about your LW beacon activities and gave a scan on the ATS 803a on it's ferrite.

Nada, not a one  :-[.

"Maybe",  something after  new indoor antenna   is built ::).

k

Any portable on its ferrite alone is going to have a tough time hearing any beacons unless they are very nearby.

You would have to find a way to inductively couple a wire antenna to the ferrite in your 803 to have a chance at hearing LW beacons.

NQC,

tnx for the observation, didn't even bother to check the AM band but probably should have
for propagation to the south  (Cuba, Mexico)

Apparently the mid-week strong geomagnetic storm continues to affect the LW band.
Was able to log only 4 Canadian beacons from 325 to 400 this morning.  Normally a dozen or more are
easily heard here in that band segment.
OTOH, propagation to the south was fairly good with DIW, JA, and DDP all heard here with strong signals this morning.

Can think of 20 or so U.S. and Canadian beacons formerly regularly heard here that have gone dark over the past few years.

The 10 meter band was open to the Caribbean and South America all day today for the contest.

Only hearing the NJ station here...   blah, blah, blah, ad nauseam.
Do any local residents actually listen to this or even know it exists ?  Probably more AM DXers know about this station than the locals.

OK, you can turn the DX test off now, we all got it in the logbook.
