It's been ages since I've heard Radio Azteca, "The Station That Lifts And Separates". I wonder if he's doing ok? I loved those shows. Radio Azteca will always be one of my top two or three favorite pirate stations.

I suspect it was done in part in response to watching Conn. based ESPN's huge success starting as no-name regional cable network in late '79 to sports dominance carrying NFL and MLB games nationally by '87. The late 80's were lean times for AM. Running sports 24/7 was becoming a viable money making route, as were the syndicated right-wing ranters that started popping up in '89/'90.

Aftermarket novelty "Nun" mouse and mouse pads have been available since the 80's.  It should be easy to get the companies that make them to switch to penguins.

Who knows, there may already be an "Opus" mouse out there for fans of "Bloom County"? Boy, I'd like to see Al's face light up when one of those arrives!

Remember when we could rely on the Weekly World News to give us the unvarnished truth?

That's a helluva catch for this time of year, Refmo. Congrats!

but the new Bonito's come with an optional bottom lit high quality tuning knob that plugs in to a USB port. Is the Devil trying to tempt us or have SDR manufacturers come to their senses and listened to the will of the people?

I suggest buying them all up and sending them to the Vatican to be exorcised. They could be a bigger menace than Quija boards if we don't take precautions.

Go Ukraine!

You get a lot of themed stations on holiday weekends. That would be my guess on this one.

A local drunk used to eat a stick of butter before he went on a bender to "coat his stomach". The old rummy lived until he was over 80. There may be something to it, but it could have been the massive amounts of blood thinner he guzzled on a daily basis. The jury is still out on his case.

If you can get a look at his 2002 NYT Magazine article, it's worth the effort. I believe that article jumpstarted this whole debate, at least in popular culture. He continues to roil the debate.

Eat your vegetables, Al. You need the fiber. We all know how cranky you act when you get more irregular than you already are.

It looks like it's an all Al Fansome weekend on the pirate bands.

I found the original studio copy of Radio Al Fansome in a box of cassettes last night. Must resist the temptation!

They are looking for ancient Perl scripts, from back in the times when real men wrote software.

Do you remember Pearl Bodine? Now there was a pretty girl. She broke poor Lester Flatt's heart.

I remember that 1970 eclipse. A house had burned just down the road a couple of weeks before. We were all standing in the road with our scavenged "smoked glass" blocking traffic, while we watched it.

I've got a sister that's in the path of totality. I'll probably run over there if I get ambitious. Of course, anything she walks past is in the path of totality.

*raspberry*  :P

Don't blame him. USB was declared the manliest of all modes by He-Man of He-Man Radio back in the mid-90's. He was having fun with a female pirate named Juliet who operated in AM.

Everyone agrees about LSB, it's the lesser side band.
