Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Mighty KBC 0000z 6040 AM 4/24/16
« on: April 24, 2016, 0248 UTC »
Been listening to The Mighty KBC all evening long, always a great program with great music.

Signal is coming in great in Southern New York, listening with the Tecsun PL-660 receiver, literally next to my computer with no signal issues.

Nice catch Atrain!

Here in New York, I mostly only am able to hear the Voice of Korea's French and Korean services on 15180 kHz in the mornings and that's it. Their South Korean counterpart, KBS World Radio is always blasting in at S9 +20 on 15575 kHz in the mornings.

I always try to hear their English broadcasts but all I ever am able to receive is a barely audible carrier at best.

63
This is great news, I'm so glad that the Radio Cairo-esque hum on 9935 kHz is gone.

9420 kHz is still my frequency of choice but I'm going to have to listen to 9935 kHz a bit to see how it comes in.

64
Was listening as well, decent S9 signal in Southern New York on my Tecsun PL-660.

I'm not really religious, but I always enjoy the format of their programs, in that it incorporates more secular elements, and it's not just straight up fire and brimstone like so many other stations in the U.S .

Coming in good again, S9 +20 in southern New York, listening via my Tecsun PL-660 receiver, telescopic antenna only.

I have been listening to WWRB every night at this time, and I really do enjoy listening to this guy's lectures, they always keep me listening.

Shortwave Broadcast / WWRB 5050 kHz at 0247z 4/14/16

WWRB blasting in on 5050 kHz with talk by the station manager, ongoing lecture about Airplanes, Pirate Radio, and periodic pitches to buy airtime. Jazz music was also observed.

Signal is S9 +20 and recent broadcasts have been much more interesting to listen to than the constant Brother Stair relays of days past.

Listening in Southern New York with a Tecsun PL-660 shortwave receiver, telescopic antenna only.

I'll often hear CBC Radio 1 with a good signal here in southern New York, on my Tecsun PL-660 in the late afternoon, sometimes it'll come in late at night as well, but that's iffy.

Great signal in Southern New York, despite passing thunderstorms the station is booming in, SINPO of all 5's.

Listening via a Tecsun PL-660 with telesopic antenna.

It's sad and what's even sadder is the fact that this entire situation is absolutely avoidable.

Right now KBC is paying nearly $300 to use the Nauen transmitting station, if they switched to WBCQ ($25 to $50 an hour) or WRMI ($50 an hour) to broadcast to the U.S, that would immediately solve any financial difficulties for that transmission, and it would give them the same signal that they get from Nauen usually.

As for the European broadcast, even WRMI can be clearly heard in Europe on the right antennas, they ought to just have invested in that.

A real shame.

KBC ought to change relay sites, they should stop wasting money with Media Broadcast and utilize WRMI, WBCQ or WTWW for their North American service.

That should save them quite a bit of money right there.

The Voice of Greece always makes it in rather nicely on 9420 kHz in New York, though their schedule is extremely sporadic so you never know when you'll hear them.

Always guaranteed to hear some nice Greek music on that station though.

72
7445 kHz - SINPO 45444 Very good signal, talk in English of current events. This broadcast to me is the BBC's North American service, though I know this isn't the target area. Still, the signal is very good and I do wish that this frequency was used for more than just 1 hour.

6005 kHz - SINPO 31432 Good signal, very strong interference from Radio Havana Cuba's English Service on 6000 kHz. For the most part it's unable to be listened to due to said interference, despite the presence of a good signal.

QTH is Southern New York, Receiver is a Tecsun PL-660 with the telescopic antenna.

It seems as though Cuba conveniently turns on their jammers every time I try to enjoy Radio Prague's English Service on 9955 kHz.

Perhaps they should go the route which Radio Slovakia International, Radio France International and Radio Ukraine International went, and purchase time of some of WRMI's other frequencies.

I'm sure it'd increase their listener numbers as well.

74
I'm visiting some folks in Madison Heights, Virginia which is literally 2 miles away from the tx site, so I'm listening now with a pretty decent signal.

Merry Christmas.

Nice catch, I live ~10 miles from the tx site so it's always guaranteed to be blasting in.

That IBOC hash is awful though, can't hear anything else from 1680 to 1720 at least.
