WBCQ's TX definitely needs dire maintenance.
splattering up to 20Khz from the ITU operation specification of 5Khz AM for their TX.
is this indicative of a degraded audio modulator valve/tube or just simple over-driven modulation ?
(not to mention interference from another foreign SWBC station at 7495 Khz)
see waterfall screen shot.

why do they even bother operating that station if the audio is so terribly bad ?
sounds like a 50Hz buzz taking over all the audio.
probably a degraded audio amplifier tube causing the issue.

i heard that here with about a S5, was going to log it but thought everyone went off to bed lol

330z - and now ladies and gentlemen, a loud, strong slow tone sweep on USB from 6933 (second one from 327z)
332z - now slow strong tone sweep on LSB
334z - slow tone sweep moved to 6925 LSB

i believe its the "peskies" having a party.

66
not sure if its the same thing but im only getting some foreign language singing at 6933 LSB
256z - looks like it was a "pesky" party going on at 6933 LSB, now that it stopped, i can hear the 6930 USB OM speaking numbers
259z - "peskies" playing music/whistling again on 6933 LSB completely obliterating the USB of 6930, "pesky" music sounds turkish

is this the "certified religious" versions of rock music ?  :D  ;D

steady S6 into eastern long island.
excellent audio if my noise level would drop a little bit (S5 noise level) - would be nice if 6160Khz quit with the occasional 10Khz audio.
2127z - "cant stand losing you" the police
2133z - "dream weaver" gary wright
i actually decided to listen to AZ's show on a remote receiver pumped through my stereo system since my noise level is just too unbearably high here.
in case anyone else has the same issue as me, ive provided the link to a remote receiver that is receiving AZ'c broadcast quite well with deep fades (hope its ok with Chris Smolinski)
http://www.globaltuners.com/receiver/1000 (Chesapeake Bay, MD)
2239z - my favorite song - "ive seen that movie too" elton john
2326z - final few minutes of sign off broadcast music and announcements
2328z - signed off
thanks for the great music AC !

Yes, I agree that it's Spanish, and there's likely a four letter callsign at the beginning of the clip.

The I/Q files are 2 GB each, so not really practical to share. I could play around with the demodulation settings and see if I can clean things up a bit more.

since im really curious about this, can you possibly "cut" the I/Q files in an audio program (but save as the same format) to a much smaller manageable file size at a specific time within the I/Q file where the signal is the best and clear ?
im not sure if you could do that though, it will depend on the sample format, sample bit rate and the software you use.
i have alot of software at my disposal that can manipulate I/Q files.

Music here as well, someone singing, SIO 322.

Here are two IDs I was able to extract from my SDR recording:

http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/6974.5-1.mp3
http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/6974.5-2.mp3
i ran both files through soundforge with sound soap and cleaned it up a bit but i could manipulate these recordings much better if i had the raw I/Q file.
in my opinion, it sounds like someone speaking in a different language, perhaps spanish, especially on the second MP3 clip.
Chris, can you provide me the raw I/Q file ?

HF Mystery Signals / Re: 6.969Mhz - 24Khz deviation WFM
« on: March 03, 2016, 1556 UTC »
This is not WFM, it is PSK based data.  This, and other, wideband data has been in use, at least at the testing level, for several years.

There are several formats this could be, but it is probably MIL-STD-188-110C Appendix D.

T!
thanks for that Token.
i figured it was probably PSK based but the data was heard better on WFM than SSB.

1440z - ALE in the broadcast audio (not on 6925)
1456z - telephone touch tones heard in the background of audio
1457z - high pitched CW, then low pitch CW and another movie started and then off @ 1458z (and a weak whistle after)

HF Mystery Signals / 6.969Mhz - 24Khz deviation WFM
« on: March 01, 2016, 2122 UTC »
anyone have any idea what this is ?
it appears to be WFM @ 24 Khz deviation, some sort of high speed data/modem.
thanks.
here is a link to the 22 second, 192Khz sampled, 16MB, I/Q baseband file recording for playback in a compatible SDR baseband I/Q player

Equipment / Re: Yaesu FT-1000D Receiver failure...
« on: February 29, 2016, 1454 UTC »
Trawling through the rather cumbersome FT-1000D Service Manual I found a Lamp Fuse F-9801 on the BPF-1 board option so after a lot of fiddling and jiggling about removed said board and found said F-9801 hidden under a small board mounted on the main, Fuse Lamp looks good, not clouded, and wires inside appear to be fine.

Fired up the radio minus the BPF-1 option receiver board and still the same, dead as from one end of the bands to the other, next step?  RX-2 board looks like the next stop but not looking forward in the task of extracting it, wish me luck... :o
did you use an ohm meter to check the continuity of the lamp ?

These guys are very serious about what they do and adhere to strict protocol.
MARS.
When you have advanced as far as you can go with amateur radio and get bored of it.
