Sensitivity, calibration and separation are all spot on.    Using the same antenna (the Alpha Delta Sloper) thru a splitter, the FRG frequently picks up  SWL  AM signals  some of my other receivers do not.  Audio quality is very good (a front facing speaker is always better).  My only complaint(and it is minor) is that it drifts slightly on SSB.   I got mine on EBAY for only $160 because , I suppose, it didn't have the optional memory card.  I checked EBAY this morning and there are only 2 today, both rather high-priced.   But keep checking - they surface on EBAY on and off all the time.

Very weak on 9435 with YL and OM conversing at 14:12.  Schedules state this is French to North America but language indecipherable due to very heavy static.    Switched to military marching music @ 14:14 UTC.
Back to YL @ 14:26 introducing an instrumental song featuring flute music.

I picked up a Yaesu FRG-7700 for $160 years ago and wouldn't part with it for 3x that amount, Wonderful  circa 1978-1982 SWL receiver.

Equipment / Re: ICOM ICR-75 vs. TECSUN S-2000
« on: August 09, 2020, 1644 UTC »
I've had the R75 I bought on EBAY over a year ago and my overall assessment is that, generally, its overrated.   Its noisy, not as sensitive as many other receivers from that time frame and somewhat cumbersome controls (particularly the ICOM RF/SQ  hybrid feature is a classic example of over-engineering).  The stock audio was so abysmal that  I had to improve the fidelity by patching the R75 audio output thru the Grundig 750 speaker which helped immeasurably (thanks and a tip of the hat to Pinto Vortando).
IMHO, save your money on the R75 - there are plenty of other options out there that perform considerably better.

A possibility is WRTZ out of Roanoke.  It transmits its classical / oldies format at night at 72 watts omni-directionally but its only about 120 miles from your location.

Just a thought.

There may be a connection if it is Cousin Brucie you were hearing.  The Coz is doing his last show on Sirius/XM tonight.  There is rumor that the 85 year old Bruce Morrow may be returning to his 13 year (1961-1974) home at WABC 770 am NYC, which is recently under new ownership, for a Saturday night weekly gig.
