Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Vanuatu missing
« on: June 04, 2022, 0025 UTC »
Thanks to Manuel Méndez's early alert in WOR iog! Here are a few highlights from June 3 harmonic receptions
(7890 & 11835, both about equal strength [3945 unusable]) of Radio Vanuatu. Very nice to have them
back on the air again!!

0652-0700 UT: Series of adv/PSA/promo; in English or Bislama; askes listeners if they are interested in local
activities(?), then there are classes available for media training for jobs in radio and TV (first time heard);
commercial for "IDA Pacific" pharmaceutical company, distributor of "IDA Foundation" products (often heard);
local time "six o'clock," and into the news/sports in Bislama till 0715. By 0900, the signal was unusable on all
frequencies.

good to hear theyre back, Ron...theyre good here for quite awhile.. not heard 3945.. but 11835.. i never think to check for 7890

I have heard CFVP up here in west central Alaska.. better then youd expect, even without jamming.. but the jamming renders CFVP useless.. still audible, but useless

Saudi’s “Holy Quran” channel on 17560khz via Riyadh to west Africa is fairly decent here in alaska at 1630UTC.  SINPO is 45344. Not a regular at all nor usually this decent when I do hear it

ATS25 radio, 2 tunable HF loops and a DXE preamp.

KSKO broadcasts across Europe every Monday on the facilities of Spaceline Bulgaria.  Join me 2200-2400UTC on 5900khz for my usual brand of hilarity, music variety, random thoughts and whatever else comes along.  Requests are welcome at (907) 524-3001.

My job is to be an ambassador for and to promote KSKO and our listening area.. and this gives me a chance to do that while livening up shortwave a little bit!!

Hi Paul,

I was was thinking about your catch all day and pieced this together.  If it is a harmonic of 7590, that frequency is in use by North Korea Reform Radio from Tashkent, Uzbekistan with their Korean service at an azimuth of 76 degrees - seems favorable to Alaska.  Uzbekistan is primarily a Muslim country and since this is a broadcast into North Korea, it could be a spiritual transmission for a people under the control of a dictator.

However, the enclosed schedule for them http://www.nkreform.com/en/schedule/ , which lists broadcast times in local North Korea local time might not match if this is a current schedule but close. (North Korea UTC +9)

By the way, this past week took the Mrs. to the Colchester Fabric Mill for her birthday, nice place.  Forget about your Harry's suggestion, maybe next time - ate breakfast at Eggs Up in Portland.  Got an Alaskan inland tour you'd suggest for autumn?  Anniversary #40 is this fall, I was thinking this as one of several spots.

It could be a harmonic. when i can get audio off my recorder, a native speaker will easily understand it.

Harrys is getting a bit expensive, but still worth it.. to say youve been.

as for what to see in alaska.. ill ask around and get back to you on that :)

UNID HELP!  1720UTC in Alaska, had one guy talking with another guy I think, one guy is doing most of the talking on 15180khz.  I initially thought this was an African continent language but I later heard a mention of the taliban and Quran so this is Arabic I think.  I may have heard this a few days ago. No one is listed on Eibi as being on 15180 at this time

Any idea who this is?

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: BBC (?)
« on: May 11, 2022, 0021 UTC »
12.025, 1515gmt., "BBC" interviews with persons about situation in Sri Lanka, also contemporary political history of Philippines.
(additional: maybe some US s.w. station relaying xmit. of BBC? I didn't listen @ top of hr. for confirmation.)

There is no us broadcaster using 12015

Only users of 12015 are Voice of korea (nk) , CRI and Mongolia.. the only english language on 12015 is 1530--1600 from mongolia

.. it happened last summer, not because I knew anything about sports, but because I worked in radio and I live in Alaska! I was listening to them on 12015kHz and texted in with a quick message after they did a story on Olympian Lydia Jacoby from Seward, Alaska.   They read my text on air and joked, "We've already got a reporter on the way to Seward now"

I replied with "If you really want a report "filed form Alaska" I have a broadcast studio I can record something in and included my phone number in the text reply.

5 minutes later, I had London calling my  cell phone and about 10 minutes later I was on the air.

I bungled my way through the call... here's the audio recorded off the 15490kHz transmission via Ascension to Africa:

And SOH isn't going to carry  1 KW 7432 miles to QTH , daytime or otherwise.  All normal schedule sources list only these 2 broadcasters.  Harmonics seem to come up empty.  So its official - I'm baffled.

Nothing to be baffled about. It’s CRI or CNR used as a jammer. That’s a long known fact
